I went this past spring..

If you can do it... go for it! People might say that you're better off spending the money that you would for school on equipment, but there were people all over sound lab that had the equipment.. but didn't know how to use it. So, I think it's a pretty good place to get you started.

You have to take the beginning engineers course before you move on to producing/song writing class or wherever else you want to go. You learn analog and digital consoles, midi, pro tools, tape machines, frequency ranges etc. You really do learn a lot.

If you do go.. see if you can't get James Dumaine's class. He's a pretty cool guy.. he makes you learn the information and expects you to know it.

I think that the beginning engineer class is around $5200. I got a student loan through Sallie Mae for my tuition.

yes sir, it's a grip. Some of the students that were in my class were only paying $20, $30 a month on their student loan. I dont' know if that's something you might want to look into.. but, they'll help you figure something out if you need to.

Mike-
Are you trying to make a living in the recording industry after Dallas Sound Lab, or is the education for own knowledge to use at home? It's a very competitive and cut throat field bro and is very tough to make a living at unless you put in a lot of UNPAID time and hours and show your dedication. After I graduated from Full Sail I worked for a couple of studios then got into live sound. I never did feel as though I would ever make a solid career in either field. Maybe I didnt stay after it long enough, who knows. I think Ive told you all this before so if I have, disregard. I know of one person I went to FS with who is making a very good living in the industry...He is Producer Scott storch' pro tool engineer but for the last 4 years or so he worked for a studio im Miami making around 12/hr but did an unpaid internship for the first year or that 4 years....Whatever you decide, good luck and one love Miguel....Peace
