![]() | My Top 10 for Oct/Nov...
Here are some of the many great tunes that have been getting some serious spins on the decks. Harry "Choo Choo' Romero "Mongobonix"(Damien J. Carter Rmx) King Street Taken from the "Latin Lounge IV ep.2" project, this track is an uptempo jazz inflected monster with Todd Gardner on trumpet solo. Nice. DJ Spen & Tommy Davis "Voodoo Ray" Code Red 2/3 of the Basement Boys come together to reinterpret a classic from the "Acid House/Summer of Love" era. They stay true to the original and update the sounds somewhat for the 21st century. I like the instrumental to work a nice accapella over but the vocal version is workable also. Various "Summer Sizzler" Vol. 1 Smooth Agent A dope 4 track ep with 4 STRONG songs. The best being "Sali" by Pico de Gallo which consists of Sean Smith & Cesar Ramirez which has some tight keyboard work; but the STORMER is "Cloud 9" by Stacy Kidd and Scott Payne. The drum programming is off the hook and the horns are well placed. I dropped this at a loft party last week and it blew the roof of the place(good thing it was a rooftop party). This ep is essential!!! Osunlade "Macaco"(Blackman Bano Rmx) Yoruba Deep, deep atmospheric afro-house which seems to invoke ancient spirits within the music. This track is Body & Soul on STERIODS. Highly recommended. Femi Kuti "Traitors of Africa" Unrestricted Access Nigerian don and New York legend Timmy Regisford hook up for a slice of heaven on the dancefloor. Femi's political commentary blends superbly with Timmy and Quentin Harris' production. The organic sounds of the strings and keys plus the vocals is what sets this afire. Larry Heard "Acid Bounce" Alleviated Taken from the "Loosefingers" ep which came out in 2004, "Acid Bounce" does exactly what the title implies. A squelchy bassline, high hats and a banging kick drum makes this dancefloor treat. This is the way acid should sound. ALL ACID SHOULD SOUND THIS GOOD!!! Bernard Badie ft. Dajae "Train" Cajual After a long absence from the scene veteran producer Bernard Badie enlists the vocal talents of the one and only Dajae for a nice slice of Chicago goodness. Bernard has always been known for the rawness of his sound but this is a bit more polished and the background vocals are a nice touch. For rawness, "Now" on the flipside is just what the doctor ordered for all the "trackheads" out there. Quentin Harris presents Cordell McClary "Got 2 Re-Love"(unreleased mix) Space Kat New York based producer Quentin Harris has been on fire lately and this is no exemption. This has the makings of a classic with Cordell McClary singng his heart out. Play this anywhere and see the response on the dancefloor...a guaranteed floorburner. Jamie Principle "Waiting on My Angel 2005" D'lectable This is my favorite right now. Mark Grant takes an already perfect song and adds his patented sound and comes up with a NEW CLASSIC. This song is sooo emotional and always brings tears to my eyes. This ranks as one of the best remixes of all time IMHO. Much props to D'lectable for staying true to Jaimes' vision. Patti Labelle ft. Carlos Santana "When U Smile" Fallout DFA are known for their remixes of R & B artists and this is their best work to date. This is tight, tight, tight. This is 10+ minutes of musical heaven. Santana adds his legendary guitar work to Patti's honey like vocals...I could go on and on but if you love dance music just trust me and track this down. Vivian Greene "Emotional Rollercoaster"(Therapy Rub) Jamsteady Another remix of an R & B artist. Vivian's smooth sexy vocals are the perfect match for a nice soulful latin tinged workout. The instrumental on the flip works well also. |

I have cooked for Patti Labelle before, Blackened Sea bass I think it was. She is a wonderful person and a gifted singer.

). There's some really, really nice music coming out right now...I guess you just have to track it down. Other stuff that I'm feeling include some things Sean Smith of Smooth Agent Records(check for this label) hooked me up with; a couple of tight promos(one a re-edit thingie of some disco and a Common redux, the other is a vocal project called "Sea of Love" ft. David Brown). And it's not just the soulful stuff, I've been digging this label called __________ for a while now, quality update on the chunky, tracky sound(I can't give away ALL of my secrets now can I) ... The flip side of the Osulande is by Atelewo(sp?) "New Day". I guess Quentin Harris is the "man of the moment". | |
