As touring DJs they have been booked throughout the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, Norway, Germany, UK, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Columbia, Korea and Brazil. Their endless releases of mixed promotional tapes and expansive fan base had them playing across the globe before they ever had an actual record release. Both of them were DJs before they met in 1997 and both are experienced producers and trained musicians. These skills naturally led them to create their own music as well as launching their own Washington DC based record label Odds and Ends Music (founded in 2002) and The Junkyard Studio's (1997). Their current productions can be found across 22 Major and Independent Music labels throughout the world. ECB have appeared in various publications including URB Magazine, Mix Mag, BPM Magazine, Remix, DJ Magazine, XLR8R, Huge Magazine, Plan 9 Magazine, Inner Loop Magazine and many others. They were voted as one of the Next 100 DJs in 2000 by URB Magazine - a sentiment that has remained true these last 4 years as they remain cutting edge producers, remixers and djs. ODDS AND ENDS MUSIC Washington, D.C., is a city renowned for its diversity in music and offers a variety that leaves a lofty lot to choose from, making the District house scene an assortment of vibes comprised of odds and ends. Local DJ heroes and guest DJs flow through the metro area on a weekly basis. Underground house music pioneers etched out a dance music culture here more than twenty years ago. Today, D.C. is home to many highly acclaimed producers, musicians and DJs. Both the new- and old-school sounds of house music live side by side every night in D.C. Odds and Ends Music was created to reflect the enchanted city of Washington and to celebrate its unique and funky habitat worldwide! OAE co-founders Ken Christensen and Juan Zapata (East Coast Boogiemen) and Courtney Reyers (Apple Rochez) have cultivated Odds and Ends Music to unite the many flavors of house music under one sleeve. ............................ i would love to get down at this last one with each and every one of you. please join me on the dance floor on friday. yeah! much love, macy ps. here are the flyers: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/Macylovestodance/Kenfront.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/Macylovestodance/kenback.jpg

![]() | From http://www.crazy-up.com/EN/read_inte...interview=ecb: We had a short talk with Ken Christensen, one of the two men behind East Coast Boogiemen and they own label Odd's & End's. Let's start with an easy one. How did you guys met ? Juan and I met in College in 1996. We were both already DJing separately. We had a mutual respect for collecting rare vinyl. We would go to record auctions, hit the secret digging spots... We had many mutual friends who also took pride in finding rare records, funk 45's, old rare groove and disco. We also shared the same love for House Music, Hip Hop and Funk. We were so addicted to it, skimping on daily life just to be able to buy one or two more cuts a week. We ate allot of Top Ramen back then. How would you describe your style ? I don’t know. That is always a tuff question. We are influenced by so much and it all kinda gets mashed up. In the studio, you never know what will happen. You can sit around for a whole day just trying to come up with a unique synth patch and then next week come up with something different. As far as djing, we love all kinds of music. To us, it’s about playing what we feel. We like to play new cuts, old cuts; our own edits of old cuts, and our own music. Categories like techy, vocal, funky, deep... It’s all jiberish. To us it is all house music. It doesn’t matter what category of House the music falls into, if we feel it, we will play it. DJ's that play a particular type of house can get very boring very fast. I don’t like djs that play similar records all the way through a set, it becomes very monotone. The best dj's to us are the ones that make things change and aren’t afraid to throw curve balls after a crowd is hooked. We like to take risks, try tricks, use more turntables... We don’t hold back behind the decks. There is nothing more gratifying when three records all break at the same time. Any influences ? My whole record collection. What makes it unique ? Every producer to me has their subtle differences and vast differences. I really don’t know what makes our music unique. I think that each track or song we make is unique from each other. I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. You recently started your own label "Odd's & End's", are the releases a reflection of your style or is it much more than that ? It is much more than that. Washington DC and the Metro area is huge and full of many different cultures. House music is very big here. We have so many different house clubs and house dj's it is crazy. I have played in every major city in the US and I would say that DC and San Fran have the largest choices in nightlife. The house scene in DC is sort of split into two parts. You have clubs like Red and the Sanctuary where more traditional vocal house, soul and classics are played. You have clubs like Mantis, Five, Blue, Guarapo, Lemur exc... where dj's are really mixing it up and playing traditional house with the new sound of house and everywhere in between. The crowds at these clubs are very different. Juan and I play a good variety and have been lucky to play to both crowds in DC and turn people on to music from both spectrums. We created Odds and Ends Music to bridge the gap. Labels like Om, Maw, Naked and Wav stick to their own formats. The same goes for labels like Doubledown, Amenti, Classic and MFF just to name a small few. With OAE, we wanted to take really good music from every format of House. We have always hated boundaries in music. What's next on Odd's & End's ? OAE 007 Oriental Funk Stew OAE 008 Rob Brown and Leon Loud "Strange Dayz EP" OAE 009 John Larner and Slater Hogan "Moving This Way" w/ Remix's by Zapata Brothers and Ken from East Coast Boogiemen OAE 010 East Coast Boogiemen "Horizontal Ju Jitsu" You guys where one of the big names at WMC this year! Can you tell us how it was ? WMC was amazing this year. Juan unfortunately could not attend so I went down there solo. We threw a two day event with Aroma and Doubledown Records called "Double Trouble" with people like Heather, Iz and Diz, Fiasco, Dizzy, Swirl People, Olivier Desmet, Allgood Funk Alliance plus many others. The party was more than we could ask for ; the place was packed with very large line to get in. We also did a day Party with Amenti and Aroma at the Marlin Hotel, which was another huge success. I missed my flight down there and ended up flying in later to West Palm Beach. I had to rent a car and drive to Miami where I barely made my second set. I missed the Planet East party unfortunately. I also had to play the night before in Washington so sleep was not the first thing on my agenda. But once I was there I finally got some quality R&R. Everyone from Allworld stayed in the same place and it was good to see all my friends together and sharing. The Allworld party was amazing as well although there were some needle problems in the outdoor area. This years WMC was the best I have attended in the past six years. I hope next year they plan it so it does not fall on spring break again, that made a huge difference. What's next on your travel agenda ? I just got back from Korea and I will be touring the states again for the next two months. I head back to Europe in May and June. July and August we will be doing some state side gigs as well as Australia and New Zealand. We have a Mixed Comp coming out on Sunswept (Universal) in the fall and a full tour will be planned for that as well as our upcoming album. November and December will have me travelling with Raoul Belmans on an Aroma tour in South America as well. You recently played here in Silo and Decadance, was it a nice experience ? Belgians have an incredible scene. People are really into house music there. Lots of great clubs. The crowds were excellent and Belgians really love to party. I am lucky to have family in Brussels who moved there from Sicily. It was also nice to see them. Maybe someday I will move there... How do you feel the Belgian scene ? The music produced in your country is absolutely amazing. Belgian producers have a keen sense on how to make good house music. Labels like Aroma, Wally's Groove World and many of the N.E.W.S labels have put out some of my favourite cuts. When can we expect you back ? You can expect to see more of me in Europe this year... We’ll stay tuned !
