Eugene Mirman’s *En Garde, Society* out MAY 9, 2006 on Sub Pop Records!



En Garde, Society! is the latest in Sub Pop’s ponderously long line of comedy albums (second
only to our series of musical CD releases). We are hopeful that you’ve seen this dude on such
television programs or cable channels as Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central, VH1, and the Networks of
both Food and Cartoon. Don’t watch TV? We are undaunted. Maybe, we say to ourselves, you’ve seen
him performing with the Stella Comedy Troupe, The Shins, Modest Mouse, or Yo La Tengo? Not a fan
of live music? No biggie! There’s still the chance that you’ve heard Eugene’s 2004 release, The
Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman, on the excellent Seattle-based record label Suicide
Squeeze. It was voted one of the Best Albums of 2004 by both The Onion and Time Out New York,
for the love of Pete! For all we know, you might have that Invite Them Up triple CD + DVD that
Comedy Central put out in 2005. Could be you’re a news-hound and have seen him on CNN discussing
his prank phone call battle with right-wing Christian long distance carriers! But, if you have
yet to “Experience Eugene” (that’s the working title of our marketing campaign for this record)
through any of these means then surely, as the active cultural participant and patron we hope
and pray each and every one of you to be, you’ve caught him on the festival circuit because he
is seeming inexhaustible, playing stuff like South by Southwest, Bumbershoot, the US Comedy Arts
Festival, the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, etc and so forth.

Eugene Mirman is a comedian, writer, and film maker based in New York City (where, according to
commercials, salsa is terrible). In 2004, Eugene released The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene
Mirman, a CD/DVD on Suicide Squeeze Records. The album was voted one of the Best Albums of 2004
by both The Onion and Time Out New York. His weekly standup-variety show Invite Them Up, which
he co-produces with Bobby Tisdale and Holly Schlesinger, recently won a Nightlife Award from an
organization called The Nightlife Awards. In late 2005, Comedy Central Records released a 3-CD +
DVD Invite Them Up set.

Recorded live at Piano's in New York City in October of 2005, En Garde, Society! is Eugene's
second full-length solo comedy album with DVD supplement (that's right, there's a DVD of short
films in there too), and his first for Sub Pop Records. On the new album, Eugene blends things
