Parents Say After Hours Club No Place For Teens

(CBS 11 News) DALLAS A north Texas after hours club that caters to teenagers is being investigated for drug use, and one parent warns that your child could be in danger.

The club is called "Afterlife" and patrons as young as 17-years-old are allowed in. They just have to show a birth certificate or driver's license.

Dallas police say hundreds of teenagers are gathering at the club, but it's not all innocent fun.

The warehouse on the access road of west Northwest Highway probably wouldn't catch your attention. From the street it looks like a run down building, but for teens across north Texas, it's a "hot" after hours club.

“They market to kids, don't sell alcohol. It's an X and LSD club. That's what it is,” said concerned parent, Wanda Landis.

Landis' 17-year-old son was driving all the way from Plano to spend his nights at the club. It doesn't open until 9pm and closes at four in the morning, and alcohol is not served.

When Landis came to the club looking for her son, she was outraged at what she found. Landis says she saw teenagers openly having sex, using drugs, and some girls even being molested.

“She's passed out on the sofa, guys taking turns touching her and she wasn't moving,” Landis said.

CBS 11 News also learned Dallas police are familiar with "Afterlife".

Police have been called to the club 16 times in the past year, and in the last five months officers have made 10 arrests… including drug possession, evading arrest, and public intoxication.

CBS 11 News tried to reach the club for comment, but our calls were not returned.

Police say the clubs owner was arrested and jailed after several citations for not having an after hours or dance hall permit. Police initially denied his requests to receive the permits, the owner appealed, and a city board did give "Afterlife" approval to stay open.

ive been going to afterlife since it opened and ill admit, afterlife used to be a crack house, better than heaven but still not exactly a "nice" place to go. But what this woman said is completly false. This is going to be very bad for afterlife when other parents who have heard thier children go start calling the news and police dept looking for answers

Im am writing regarding your recent report on the club "Afterlife". I would like to know whether you decided to report this story and the womans findings on blind faith alone or if your news team tried to do more research than just contacting the police. I have been attending afterlife since its opening day and have promoted and worked for the club as well. I have been a part of many events that have gone on and am outraged at the onesided views reported in this story. The staff and security do everything in thier power to make the place a good enviroment for children and adults of all ages. The claims that there was public sex and molestation of women are completly untrue. Afterlife staff would not allow anything of this nature and if found would immediatly contact local authorities. The arrests made in the past year at the club are not indicative of all patrons. Take a look at any bar/club in dallas and the amount of times police have been called and the amount of arrests that have been made and one will find the same if not more police intervention.
