Jason Timothy has been part of the So. Cal music
scene long enough to be called a veteran. Jason
started in 1988 as a guitarist in the Duran
Duran/Love and Rockets/Depeche Mode influenced
'Negative Image'. By 1991-92 Jason r e i n v e n t e d
himself as a programmer/keyboardist/guitarist in the
band 'Mock Turtle Story', which took inspiration
from the Manchester Brit Pop/Shoegazer scene
and the early rave movement. In 1996, artists like
The Orb, Chemical Brothers, Orbital and
Underworld drove Jason to drop the guitar and
focus completely on electronic music as a breakbeat
duo (with Kelly G.) Nikkshifter. It was around this
time that Jason started toying around with DJ'ing,
and by 2001 ran into old friend and current partner
Frank Prosnik to form "Innerstate", which is where
the new story begins....
Innerstate makes aggressive main floor stormers
full of sinister stabs and sweeping melodies on one
end, and beautiful, uplifting, hypnotic and techy
chuggers on the other end. Taking influence from
Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Sigur Ros, the
Pixies, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Talk Talk,
as well as the noticeable progressive, techno, tribal,
tech house and trance influences. Innerstate
supporters thus far include: Hernan Cattaneo,
John Digweed, Way Out West, Taylor, D:Fuse,
Tigerhook, and Low End Specialists to name just a
few. Innerstate also has write-ups from Hernan
Cattaneo in DJ Mag as well as URB Mag.
Jason's mixing is best defined as an art of working
in the moment. This creates a fresh, unrehearsed
set with plenty of drama, experimentation and
room for incidentals. Innerstate is currently in the
studio working on new music and gearing up for
the release of their first single "Sidewinder" on
Sequences Recordings.
