This deeply funky human being was born in Washington DC in 1972 and raised in Chicago. After moving to Detroit in ’94, Theo Parrish began to turn House music on its head, with a musical expression that fuses the rhythmic, Disco-based pulse of Chicago House with the modernist motorik soul of Detroit Techno; at the same time pointing to a lineage in black music that runs directly from Sun Ra to Sound Signature. Just check Theo’s philosophy: »Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, perfomer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute, an expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using this same understanding openly & respectfully, can turn DJing into spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history. Necessary listening through movement.«
