Attention Dallas DJs!

Attention Dallas DJs!

We are now looking for new and fresh talent to possibly perform at FIRE at the Lizard Lounge!

Here's what we are looking for:

Talented (required that if you have played outside of your bedroom before and can mix 2 tracks together)

Promotion (you absolutely positively have to promote just as well, if not better than you DJ. If you do not know how to promote on the street or online, please do not apply. This is a must!!!)

Ambition (must take initiative to market youself and events)

Residence (You must live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area)

Your Following (i don't want to say its a popularity contest, but its a popularity contest. if you have a lot of friends that will follow you wherever you play then we are interested. This means more than 20 people!)

Style (We are looking for Electro, (some) house, trance and progressive DJs) All DnB DJs please contact Jeff Spock!

Please respond this message with your email address or email Steve at twpeg@yahoo.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!

I guess you aren't following the point he's trying to make.

Your Following (i don't want to say its a popularity contest, but its a popularity contest. if you have a lot of friends that will follow you wherever you play then we are interested. This means more than 20 people!)

This means that he's looking for DJs that are already fairly well known in Dallas. Seriously, would you want to go hear a DJ spin that you've never heard of? No, neither would I. "Popularity" may not be the best word to use, but his statement following explains the point he's trying to make.

djs who have no following need to build it and work at it. this is the opportunity. it only becomes about money when shows continue to suffer. thanks for the post!

"Would you want to go hear a dj that you've never heard of?" This ludacris in my opinion. I think your statment should be modified to say "Would you want to go SEE a dj you've never SEEN before?"

It doesn't matter who the schmuck is behind the decks, laptop, cdjs. What matters is the quality he/she is putting through the air. It doesnt matter who this new talent is as long as he/she has "talent". He can be given the "following" by Steve, Noel, WSP, Dylan, etc etc... promoters in general. All that has to occur is a few nights of splendid djing with an attentive dancefloor. Followed by some major props and recognition from the prior listed folks and those like them. Then BAM you have your "following". In the end what needs to happen here and all over the metroplex is more promotion of real talent.

Raise the bar. I think thats what Steve is trying to do here. It's the responsibility of the Dallas promoters, managers, and owners to change what is being put through the speakers on a regular basis.

This is by no means a rant agains the current talent. I've known Dylan for over a year, and though his musical knowledge erks me a bit (reference:Trentmollers - We share our mothers health, when he told me it was a promo that I had already been playing months prior to him playing it out) I admire his talent and tenacity behind the decks. Other Fire rez., promoters, and regular guests: Dorian, Frankie, Subueto... these guys can all throw it down proper.

Myself, not so great... I love the music, I have a passion for it... I just don't have the flash and skill to play at the level of these "followed" djs.

My request to you Steve/Binx... find someone truly TALENTED like your current report.

pushing submit reply tentitively.

Good luck.
those that work hard and show initiative and don't trip over the egos they think they have do, but like i said when presented with opportunities, money should be the furthest thing from their minds. when its not, those djs go nowhere fast. thanks for the message.

really do appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.

so true mal1ce, but if no one shows to the events, is it really good music? the more people listening to good music and attending events with good music the better for the venue, the promoter and the djs.

Oh no, I understand you have to make your money back, I've got no issue with that....and I'm not saying you should book all new unknown talent no matter how good they are.
What I do think, is that as a promoter you're in a position to help the talented not so big name DJ's gain some exposure. Once they are given that chance, then "good music is good music" and the crowd will respond.
Yes, no....what do you think?
