We are always looking for naive and hackneyed talent to possibly be a monkey at FIRE at the Lizard Lounge!

Here's what we are looking for:

Talented (required that if you have three pounds of hair glue and preform on the air synth)

Promotion (you absolutely positively have to put out, better than you DJ. If you do not know how to put out on the street or online, please do not apply. This is a must!!!)

Ambition (must take initiative put your nose in asses when the time comes and not clean it off so everyone can see your brown nose)

Residence (You must live within distance for your parents to drop you off)

Your Following (It's a popularity contest. And if your girlfriend is hot then were interested in banging her. At least 20 times.

i don't blame you for not wanting to read it.

you are coreect. play a show and help promote..

lizard lounge and i were closing the video bar for the winter but were talked into keeping it open. we decided to let djs lay it but lay it for the exposure, no pay.

some took exception to it, for whatever reason, and got jealous, butt hurt and pissed.

there are so many djs out there that want and look for an opportunity to strut their stuff, we presented them with it...and many have played and many more want to play and understand.

honestly, i think its jealousy. most cannot get out of their own way.

we have fun and try to show the edm community a good time. its not about money tous. if it were we would be doing something different. we are not rich and don't make lots of money...we keep doing it for the love of the music and love of the party.

For me, this line of reasoning is precisely why I always paid my DJs at my parties. It wasn't about money, so what was the big deal in losing a couple hundred extra to help out people I believed in? I never came out ahead on any of my parties, but that was assumed to be the outcome when I started planning each event. If it's not about the money, then why not throw them a bone? Even if it's only $50, it's still something, and I guarantee you the DJs will appreciate the thought behind it. If it's all about the love of the music, I don't see the problem in paying your talent for services rendered when they're the ones providing the music that you love so much.

I could understand not paying the DJs if your parties were free or you were obviously not making any money on the event(and no offense, but any party with a $20 cover doesn't qualify as somebody not trying to make money), but knowing the people behind the LL every party is an attempt at making money. That's not a slam at all, it's a legitimate purpose; they're running a business and trying to stay open. But you don't see them claiming that everything's about the music or the party either. I guess my point is that people who claim they're all about the music generally don't mind helping out those who help them whenever possible, whereas those who run things as a business are more likely to skimp on expenses whenever possible. That's not to say one has to be a dick to run a business, but there's a method of operation for each avenue and they rarely intersect. I just don't understand the thought process here. I think it would make a lot more sense if your words and your actions seemed to align with each other.

Of course there's the third possibility that your crew is simply the promotional front for the LL and you don't have any say over where the funds go. If that's the case, I think a lot of the people in this thread would understand why you operate the way you do if you came out and admitted as such. I don't know if that's what is going on here, just speculating based on what I know of previous crews that have done events at the LL.

It's your crew, your parties. You have the right to run it however you want; that's the beauty of a free market. If your method succeeds then you will survive; if not then you will disappear eventually. Such is the way of the business world(especially in the entertainment sector). I don't think you guys are trying to hurt the scene and I'm not calling for a boycott(in fact, I'll probably be at the A&B show) or anything. I'm just throwing my 2 cents out there.
