this is from a friend on another board. just looking for more suggestions. so the 1st day of class one of my kids says, chef- you like house music don't you. i can tell by looking at people. so we chat, i mention a few names and he draws a blank. he has no idea who green velvet, eric prydz, laurent garnier, or tiga are. he recognizes digweed and daft punk but can't name sets or albums. today he gave me a cd that is basically crap. i recognized a couple tracks that are a good 2 years old and the rest was garbage. he also called it techno when everything on there was house, really boring house at that. last week he mentioned going to the vanguard - he likes deep dish for chissakes, but didn't know that dubfire alone isn't actually deep dish. obviously he needs help, and his dj friends probably need it too since he told me he had to miss class since his friend was dj'ing a party. if the friend is playing the crap on the cd, he ain't goin nowhere. what sets would you recommend to really blow his mind??

this is far from everything you need.....but it might school em' on a few things... Lazy Dog Vol. 1 AND 2 - JAY HANNON & BEN WATT (perhaps the best house compliations of all time...) Live In San Francisco - HESOHI Nite:Life 02 - H-FOUNDATION Rising to the Top: House Sound of San Franciscio - JENO Imperial Dub Vol. 2 - DOC MARTIN Unlock Your Mind - DOC MARTIN San Franciscio Sessions Vol. 3 - DJ GARTH Sneak's JuJu Beats - DJ SNEAK Thanks for Coming By - LUKE SOLOMON & DERRICK L. CARTER Seasons One - MARK FARINA United Djs of America - DAVID ALVARADO and that's not even getting into all the classic/acid house...or the techhouse and techno...more later... |

As cheezy as it sounds - Fatboy Slim: Big Beach Boutique II - Live on Brighton Beach. Give him the DVD. It will break his mold of what he thinks Fatboy Slim really is....and make him realize there is a whole other world to EDM...
