Teeheee I know I actually thought of you. I totally wanted to do the park party before this event but Marco,Keith, and Brian voted against it because of having to much work to do for this event. Everybody is working hard and putting in so much energy into this event. I think it's going to be a very special night. I have had several people email me wanting to help out by art and entertainment or just to tell me that they are very excited about this event.

I think it's a wonderful thing what Brian mentioned earlier. Everyone should bring a candle or something to put on the alter.. Something that is special to you or that you would like to share with others. It would be nice to light all the candles as an opening to the event when the dance floor starts up.

Can't wait to see all my freaks out in the woods again!

I really like the idea of lighting the candles as an opening to the event. I would also like to stress the importance of bringing things for the open altars that are special to you and have your positive energy focused on them. Brian mentioned the altars at Gemini Festival, which were huge, you could really tell that it was taken seriously by all that attended, and really added something to the vibe of the event. I'd really like to see us come together to create some really stunning altars for this event. With that being said, the only thing that was requested of people not to bring to put on the altars were Kali figurines. This seems appropriate to ask of everyone for this event.

So, bring a candle and your favorite object and help us create some very positive centers of energy in both areas!

I would be interested to know why they were excluding Kali. I would think it might have something to do with the nature behind Gemini somehow, but I can't see the correlation at this point. Kali doesn't represent anything bad at all....heck she was Shiva's wife. Most everything that she stands for is quite beautiful really. IMHO I say bring out Kali figurines if you got them....or candles will suffice, lol.

Initially I did some research and I believe that the reason why they asked that is that Kali is the goddess of death and destruction which has some negative associations. However, once I did some more in-depth research, I found that her being representative of that also makes her representative of change and rebirth. She is also a goddess of divine salvation and represents the five elements.

Wtth that being said, I agree with you. Bring 'em if you got em.

Indeed!!

She represents the past, present, & future. The disolution of karma(burning off of samsaras) which brings one into higher stages of enlightenment. She is actually very beautiful even though her physical depictions are of the death of many souls.

i've never understood why death is considered so derogatory &/or feared.

also...speaking of "burning off"... there is a paganesque ritual that include the writing of the incantation/wish/something to release onto a piece of paper....burning & releasing it into the universe (as you project your thoughts as well..) sort of a two for one .... does this make sense?

I thought Death was also a time for rebirth.

You die & get reborn. I know death is fears so bad b/c the process of dying is unknown - exactly what happens. Also I would fear the way I was going through Death, as in being eaten by zombies or being demonically possessed. Oh, yeah, that's super scary.

I am glad as well, I wouldn't want to go around talking about things without fully understanding them. Too late! Oops, My apologies.

I do agree though, even though death may be scary. It is a time for rebirth. Like the night kills the sun, it is reborn every dawn. It's cyclical, and there is real beauty in that.

My second Lhasa Apso was named Kali, her mother was Sita, Sita was given to our family as a gift by a Tibetan monk while we were living in Calcutta, India in the early 70's

I have always known about Kali and how most people view her as a god of death and destruction. But was taught otherwise by the locals, Kali was considered a symbol of rebirth, or a new beginning. Also she was a symbol of leaving ones cluttered life behind for a new simple beginning. Similar to a Phoenix.

So it was wierd to see that Kali statues would be excluded from the alter.
