Always burn candles on a protected, heat resistant surfaces. __________________________________________________ _____ Fun Candle Facts * Prior to the mid 19th century, the majority of candles were tallow (a byproduct of beef fat rendering). The fuel now is nearly always some form of wax, with paraffin wax being the most common. Soy and vegetable-based candles are also available. * The Egyptians and Cretans made candles from beeswax, as early as 3000 BC. Early candles were made from various forms of natural fat, tallow, and wax. * In the 18th century, spermaceti, an oil produced by the sperm whale, was used to produce superior candles. Late in the 18th century, colza oil and rapeseed oil came into use as much cheaper substitutes. * Paraffin was first distilled in 1830, and revolutionized candle-making, as it was an inexpensive material which produced high-quality, odorless candles that burned reasonably cleanly and were used during the colonial days. * In Christianity, candles are commonly used in worship both for decoration and ambiance, and as symbols that represent the light of God, or specifically the light of Christ. Candles are often placed on the altar. Votive candles may be lit as an accompaniment to prayer. * Candles were traditionally used to light up Christmas trees before the advent of electric lights. * In Wicca and related forms of Neopaganism, candles are frequently used on the altar to represent the presence of the God and Goddess, and in the four corners of a ritual circle to represent the presence of the four elements. ______________________________________________ Reasons why we burn candles To talk to God Develop Spiritual Understanding Clearing of our minds / meditate Religious services of all kinds. There will also be a "Burner Integration Workshop at Lion's Roar" A girl named Katie will be setting up this workshop..This is what she has to say.. Yay people! I'm so excited about this! We have a unique opportunity here to further discuss many of the important issues in the previous thread with several old school burners, fellow psytrancer/burners, fire experts and the like! I and a few others will be hosting a workshop at the chill stage in the morning around 8:30-9ish all about Burn events and how to properly integrate into that community. If you have wanted to go to Flipside, Myschevia, decomp, Orfunner than this is for you. If you have attended one or two of the smaller events, and want to go to Burning Man, this is for you. If you just want to learn how to adopt the principles into the psytrance community to make ours a little better, this is for you. If you consider yourself an experienced burner already, then come and give us your point of view. We will be discussing the 10 principles, 6 principles that apply to Texas Burns, fire safety from a real Fire Man, how to make a theme camp, and what ever other topics or questions get brought up. I highly encourage everyone to attend. You will learn a lot about community involvement, preservation, safety, harm reduction...so many things. Again, it will be held at the chill stage in the morning. Several non-psytrance burners have expressed interest in helping lead the discussion. Let's show them how we do it and educate them in the process |

The sense of community has been ever present with this gathering. Jess, myself, and a few others have really stressed the communal aspects of our scene and it is coming back to us in an amount that I never expected. We are truly honored to put on a gathering and have this much support from people who want to pass down information, and who just want to help out to make this successful. Now more so than ever is our time to solidify the psychedelic trance scene in Texas as a true community of dedicated people who hold the trance dance experience as a sacred experience. So I am putting it out there for those who haven't come out to our gatherings to do so if you are open-minded and have an interest in exposing yourself to something very powerful.

| I've searched around and it looks like there's a couple of lakes in the area between the venue and Austin that charge a small fee (3-4$) for park entry, and they have beaches.
