Lower Greenville Avenue Sees More Bars Close

The article and news film states that 8 bars have closed. Drinking, dancing, and bar hopping is getting harder to do on Greenville Avenue. This makes me sad.

this is what i don't get. lower greenville has been a party destination for some time now. why the fuck would you move anywhere close to there if you are gonna complain about bars, and parked cars?

I just don't understand why someone would move to an area like that and then complain about parking and traffic ect. Go somewhere else.

Its like Deep Elum all over again with the Condos and lofts bitching and moaning about the loud music from the clubs... The Clubs were there first, the people should realize this. Hell Austin's downtown area seems to survive why can't Dallas learn from them on how to do it.

i saw that fuckin Avi guy last night on the corner across the street from where Whiskey Bar was. he was sitting there with all the cops and had a video camera....what a fuckin loser man...get a life.
However i must say, the larger part of the people that are going down to Lower Greenville arent really making a great case for themselves. Everything on that side of the street with the pawn shop is just a breeding ground for fucking idiots and assholes looking to start shit and raise hell. sadly, the one thing i have to say is that the element down there has become pretty unsavory. They had to pop off some tear gas down there friday night. You CAN have a street of bars that isnt just mass chaos. Those bars on that side of the street are all appealling to that same "i just turned 21" crowd. I dont think its all bad really...i cant say i would really mind if Sugar Shack and those other places like that were to go away. The bars that have been there forever (Zubar, Old Crow, Service Bar etc.) arent the ones causing the problems. Its those joints that change their name every six months bringing the unwanted attention on the strip.

We're running into the same problems, believe me. People want to live downtown, but once they're there, they start bitching about everything that makes it desirable in the first place. There was a city council meeting a couple of weeks ago discussing the noise ordinance (which BTW is totally fucked up and the city ignores when it's convenient), and it's sure to be a huge issue in the near future. Will Wynn is such a tool that I'm sure they'll end up killing the downtown scene just like they did to Ellum.

Yup, I've heard the same things. These asshats are moving into condos right by the clubs and bitching about the noise. On a slight tangent, it really pisses me off that you can see that one new condo while swimming in Barton Springs. Where the hell are all these assholes coming from?

Yeah, there's been a huge stink about sight lines with all the new high rises going in. The developer for 360 (the condos you're referring to) pulled a fast one on the city with that shit. IIRC, the Austonian will be visible from Barton Pool as well. There's also a huge problem with these assholes that move into condos in places like 5th and fucking Brazos and have the nerve to bitch about the noise. I show a lot of condos downtown, and always warn my clients about the fact that it's an area with an active nightlife and that they need to come down and check out the building on a Saturday night before they make up their mind. Not all Realtors do this, however, and that's admittedly a part of the problem.

And to answer your question, most of the assholes are coming from California, NYC, Dallas, and Houston. That being said, folks from NYC seem to be cooler about the noise, unless they're really from Long Island.
