| Quote: I know those guys weren't dancing to the song that was playing (i.e. the audio and video were edited), but were they dancing to songs like the one that was playing? ...guess I never had it defined for me, just heard the genre name before

| "Ghetto House" and "Juke" originated with the "Traxx" and "Jack" sound of the mid to late 80's which was popular with the House crowd that frequented the clubs and listened to college radio stations WKKC, WNUR and commercial stations WBMX and WGCI The younger kids listening to the music in the early to mid 90's added their flavor to the sound and these JUNIOR HIGH and HIGH SCHOOL dj/producers like GANTMAN, SLUGO, DJ DEEON and others took the rawer elements that was "jack" and came up with the "ghetto house" sound which got it's influence from people like RON HARDY, CHIP E, FARLEY JACKMASTER FUNK, LIL LOUIS and a host of others... The French were very much into this sound and people such as DAFT PUNK and JUSTICE take notice of the influence of Chicago dj/producers over their career and styles... also note that the international "electronic"(?) music "media darlings" Daft Punk credit Chicago transplant and current Dallas resident BOO WILLIAMS as one of their "Teachers"... it's just a natural progression of the music...from JACK to JUKE... The youngsters juke... Gantman chronicling the link between JACK TO JUKE... and the old schoolers JACK... notice at around the 3:00min. mark of the video were Frankie invites the dancers onstage...that's JACKIN' |

House Music is UNIVERSAL...it crosses gender, age, sexual, religious, national boundaries... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6-r-...eature=related Can you imagine a major newspaper here in the States using House Music to sell newspapers? It shows you how repressed true culture is here in the states... Also of note, "The Perculator" is a prime example of a 'Ghetto House'-ish track that went "commercial"...everyone from the Southside Jukers to the barflys at the Abbey Pub on the North Side of Chicago to clubs of Europe. Here is some KNOWLEDGE on footworking and juke: | |
