POPCOX is the stage name of flamboyant drag queen Poppy Cox, alter ego of a professional DJ with 12-years experience who has played everything from disco to techno over the years.

Mystery and a bit of healthy intrigue surrounds this most spectacular of DJ make-overs, which is exactly the point. “I got a bit sick of seeing geeks in t-shirts playing minimal to ketamine-head zombies and I wanted to rebel against that, play genre-busting club music to remind people how to dance, scream and have fun like they did a few years ago, the flamboyant new persona was actually a throw-away comment but it's proved popular and a lot of fun! I think it reflects my rebellious attitude to the music and performance in general,” she says.


So what the devil does she think she is up to striking out on a super-glamorous solo adventure right now? Who the hell does this DJ think she is?

“I’ve established myself in the industry previously as part of a DJ/production duo and now I need a bit more ‘jumpyroundyness’, a bit more spirit, a sprinkling of dance floor magic, a dash of eyeliner and a two fingered salute dull dance music!” she says.

“Music to make you look up, not down, music for people who haven’t forgotten how to have fun. Think Vodka Redbull rather than Ketamine Minimal… if you know what I mean!”

POPCOX is the epitome of fun; thumping good dance floor music to make you stamp and scream!

If you happen to be in the room when POPCOX is on the decks, expect to be scowled at, winked at, bitten, chewed up and spat out in a musical fiesta of nu-disco, electroboogie, electro, techtro and house to make you jump, scream and maybe even wee a little bit.

Having headlined Pacha, The Egg, Hidden, White House and Club Rub, in London, Level 2 in Colchester plus sets at Aquarium, Ghetto, and The Hoxton Pony and a residency headlining Helsinki in Leicester, all in the first 6 months since launching she’s been a busy little bee! She's also found time to launch of her own night ’POPCOX PRESENTS’ and ‘Rugcutter’, two venue touring nights showcasing the best talent in no-nonsense crowd pleasing DJ talent.

A poolside set at the Miami Winter Music Conference and a US tour with sets on the West coast of Canada, its only a matter of time before the POPCOX phenomena is spreading like bird flu!

Media coverage includes guest radio mixes on Ministry of Sound and House FM with DJmag, dontstayin, 4clubbers and Gaydar Nation all featuring her it seems this out-there project has touched a nerve. She's pushed the pedal to the metal in the studio to with a raft of productions in the pipeline and POPCOX TV already in the editing suite this fresh and zany DJ concept is sure to go far.
