| its a damn shame
that some of the house dj's in the metroplex dont get as much respect nationally as others do. first of all, Demarkus is just fuckin bad, and 4 Peace is a bad motha fucka too. Scott Pace, and all the old Hazy Daze dj's were ass shakers too. So from me to all of you, i just want you to know that you get my respect if it means anything, and just hold ya head up, and keep doin what your doing, because it IS appreciated on this end. 1 hundred....

I agree completely, the House DJs here in DFW are some of the finest, and definitely need more recognition. Especially Matt. When those new tracks of yours make you a household name at clubs around the US, try not to forget the little people back home, like me. Or better yet, take me with you, I can be your record lackey! FYI: A lot of the Dallas house heads *DO* get nation-wide recognition. Many don't, however, get *local* recognition. Just 3 quick examples: * Kelly Reverb - nationally recognized and respected, has released several remixes of Icey's tracks (just to name one off the top of my head), as well as a list of original tracks. * Demarkus - The 'make ya believe' guy himself.....we took a vacation to Cali last year and decided to do a little record shopping (who wouldn't), and when we got to one store in particular, we got 2 very nice surprises: 1) Doc Martin was working behind the counter (it's his record store), and 2) on his wall of 'featured records' (i.e. the dope shyte) was one of Demarkus' records * RedEyE - this guy gets hella recognition, although he's somewhat (but not entirely) reclusive nowadays. He's on Sony Records, and has some of the most original and innovative tracks I've ever heard out there. There are several others out there, but you get the point. . Dallas has got helluh talent. i agree dallas djs do need more respect but with that being said the djs have to be willing to take it to the next level....im not saying that 4-Peace, demarkus, scott pace and kelly dont do that.....but you can be the best at mixing and stage presence but if your not out there networking and making it happen then its not going to happen.............

The problem is marketing. It's tough to market yourself, and lets face it, not very "cool" in the eyes of some. Finding someone to it properly and in a professional manner is difficult and often expensive. I've seen so many big name DJ's and acts come through here lately that can't hold a candle to some of our homeboys and girls, but a good manager can make a crap smell like a rose. I think if you really want to be noticed, don't worry about being humble and sell yourself, or pay someone to do it for you. If you just want to play records ... just play records. Personally, I'm waiting for a phone call any moment to go on international tour cuz my ph#'s hand written on those 9 or 10 cd's I've passed out.

One Dallas Dj I'd like to see get alot more recognition is Wes Lee. This man throws it down like no other. Every mix I've heard is smooth as hell and his tracks WILL make you dance.

BTW, if anyone's interested in what a RedEyE track sounds like, listen to the first track on Kid Icarus' 'Never Mind the Apocalypse....' . RedEyE is one of his major influences, and putting that track on there first was sort of a "tipping of the hat" to the man himself. Good stuff. Mucho yummie. - Thomas |

| My thoughts...
I know first hand that Demarkus is networking his ass off and has now signed with Boo Williams agent who is only representing the two of them. He also has over 14 releases on many different labels and is definately getting mad respect world wide. I think it's just difficult for dj's to get local respect on a broad basis. Look at Chicago and all the people that would normally be headliners here but play every week up there. No one up there gives a damn. I think that's just the way things go on a local level. Special J... I'm going to direct De to your post. He'll really appreciate it. |

Man, you really struck a nerve with me… --- Good point Kelly. I spent some time with in Colorado about three years ago with some friends, and names like Rob Vaughn, Kelly Reverb, Robert Taylor, Cle and Red Eye were most often thrown out when I mentioned where I was from. The massive party thing was at its peek at the time, but these were -- and still are -- our ever so talented and beloved residents. It seems Denver loves Dallas, and for good reason. But lets face it, New York, LA, San Fran. Chicago... People there may respect certain people from Dallas, but come on, to most of the common world, we all still ride horses to work. Personally, I feel I'm in the presence of some of the best talent to ever match a House beat right here and now. Living here in the middle of the U.S. gives us the chance to see many of out-of-towners. Some of which I’ve recently found to be big disappointments. Some of these were my "beloved residents" of my youth while living in San Francisco in the early 90's. But I got to tell ya, it’s seeing talent like Kelle, Demarkus, Scott Pace, Matt (4-Peace) --and just too many others to even try and do it justice-- that got me back into spinning with all this passion after such a long hiatus. Thanks guys for giving me hope and putting a smile on my face again.

i would have to say my fav local is Phooka, this man's jungle sets just rock it like none other. i think he is just as good as a "headliner" (better then some even) like aphrodite, phantom 45, faust, shortee, danny the wildchild. i think he is right up there w/ them as far as talent and quality goes. plus he is producing tracks now so who knows one of those might hit it big "the dark inside me" track is really good. i'm pretty sure that is by them if not well then i just made myself look stupid...
