I thought the whole point of KDL was to be a "Dance" station. They play Dance music.

If someone knows who runs this shit, I would be more than happy to go talk to them and propose some specialized shows, and a more expansive variety of "Dance" music.

Last time I listened, KDL doesn't run commercials. (correct me if I'm wrong - I haven't listened in a looong time). If this is the case, I'm not sure why $$ would play any part in their selection of tunes.

We've got plenty of people who would be more than willing to donate their time to the cause. (DJing shows, etc)

An easy thing to propose would be 2 specialized shows per week. (2 to 4 hours a week... that's hardly obtrusive)

1 night for house/breaks, featuring guest DJs
1 night for drum n' bass (or garage), featuring guest DJs

Easy enough.

They are very much a commercial radio station now. And in theory, the formula sounds easy. But things don't always work out theoretically.

They tried an all dance mixture of old pop dance with new pop dance coupled with a few mix shows. The pop dance didn't take(as far as non-dance music conversion is concerned) and the mix shows didn't and still don't really offer you much as far as information goes.

I did notice a HUGE difference on the effect pop-dance tunes had in the clubs. People got into them more. They reacted more to them. They seemed to get the fact that they can shake their ass to it. Now these are songs that had regular rotation and were talked about by the personalities(i.e. "This is the new one from....." and "that was the latest from the producer of ......").

So obviously the station was touching danceclub(non-rap) goers. It's just that danceclub goers don't have large numbers to begin with. So naturally, they tried to reach rap listeners and connect them together. They OBVIOUSLY failed. They poorly represented the rap listeners and alienated the dance crowd.

Their only salvation was the mixshows. And as I stated before, the mixshows really don't give listeners a whole lot of info to take with them.

The whole station just seemed to trainwreck. And in the worlds of both hip hop and dance, trainwrecking is not cool.

Then look at Pete Tongs playlist and pick 10. Any 10. And it will be better then KDL. Even the hip hop he plays is better than the hip hop on KDL.

It's a referance. They should use it.
