| good record shops in europe??? anyone?
Going to be headed to Europe in a few months for about 3-4 weeks. I will be staying in Germany for about 8 days, Belgium/Luxemburg/Netherlands for about 7 days, and Paris for the remainder of the trip. Really looking for good record shops mainly while I am in Germany. I will be staying in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Darmstadt. Does anyone know any web listings or any info on record shops in these areas??

there was a thread here with a huge list of online shops that sell records, many of which had actual stores, and there were at least 3 or 4 located in europe.. i wish someone that has it bookmarked or whatever would either bump it or give it the "sticky" treatment..

here are a few in amsterdam with a list of their "specialty". granted they stock more but if you are looking for a particular genre pay attention to what it is....great independent stores...prices are a little more but well worth it for the selection....some are actually in the "burbs" like outside the canal rings.....keep in mind that like here stores come and go and its been about a year since i was there. back beat records...latin jazz, acid jazz, rock-jazz, fusion, swing, hard bop etc boudisque....almost everything except jazzy stuff and dutch vocals....really big store with massive collection of techno and general electronica specializing in ambient and idm....also some obscure metal concerto.....great used cd and vinyl.... be willing to be largest in the city, but its a sift at your own risk...lol take a day for this store alone. dance tracks.....Good store with loads of techno, trance and mellow club stuff, as well as soul, r&b & hip hop. You'll probably find a lot of the same stuff as in Boudisque and Rhythm Import distortion..... Small shop, loads of vinyl, especially 7"'s, nice guys. Specializes in guitar bands no one's ever heard of, but does also keep a fast growing section of IDM, trip hop & jungle fat beats...... Specializes in hip hop, reggae, R&B and breaks. get records...... Large stock of indie, low fi, pop etc., as well as quite some techno & ambient CD's groove connection......Lot of goa trance and club techno, almost exclusively on vinyl independent outlet....hardcore, punk killa cuts....devoted entirely to dnb and trip hop outland......downstairs techno.....up...hous and club de plaatboef.....mid size second hand of everything....bills records of amsterdam de platenkoning.....small second hand loads of 12" techno, house, hip hop, etc rush hour....specializes in dnp, techno, and house....vinyl only no cds....great hard to find place..give em a few days and they have a supplier that no one else knows about and can get about anything in 3 biz days. staalplaat....might have heard of it....by far the largest experimental industrial in europe....mostly cds some vinyl.....they merged with a shop called barroni....be careful when you go it can be hard to get to, because it is bordered by a canal, city hall, and the opera house...one way in and out and horrible during special events. hey i hope you have a good trip and hope this helps, justin Quote:

If you are down with electro then Clone in Rotterdam is the place to be...they stock a good bit of everything but mostly electro, italo, techno and house/classics etc. I'd have to say that Rush Hour and Clone are the ones holdin' it down in Holland amongst the crap stores and shit music primarily sold in The Netherlands.

Thanks for the suggestons. I talked to Eric (Maetrik) yesterday on the phone, and he gave me a few to check out in Germany, since we have similar tastes. I will definatly be hitting up Kompakt and Hardwax while I am in Deutschland...thanks again...now how the fuck am i going to carry all those records around, considering I will be backpacking...yikes! Guess thats where the postal service will come in handy...but one things for sure, I CANNOT pass up buying music in Europe, no matter what the cost.. |
