making a mix.

If I wanted to make a mix with only a computer, digital tracks, and software, (with no turntables or actual vinyl) what software is the easiest to do this with and what is the learning curve like?

im really new to this, so keep that in mind.....i have tried a couple of packages out. sound forge and acid seem to take care of all my needs. i dont know what your computer skills are, nor do i know how in depth you want your mixes to be but the learning curve is not that steep. niether are too hard, but i found sound forge to be a bit more user friendly, and less cluttery....i have 3 19in monitors and you can really spread it out with multiples....dock and float windows....sound forge also seems to have more effects, or they may just be more accessible. i think most guys on here would say you can do almost anything you need/want with either of those two

hope this helps,
justin

Thanks, that does help. I'm always curious to find out how other people do it.

Personally, I am not intending to make extremely in-depth mixes, i just want to make things flow enough to be called a "mix".

Thanks fot he suggestion. Unfortunately I don't have a friend with CD turntables, and if I did, I would not know how to use them to make a mix anyways.

Yeah, I've heard it was supposed to be pretty easy.

Does your friend use and get good results?

Haha, well that defeats the purpose, then it would be your mix and not mine.

I'd say a combo of acid and sound forge if you are a pc user Is what YOU probably need (not saying this is for everyone) as said before the learning curve is low and it will actually sound ok. Nice thing about Acid is it's ability to support plugins and whatnot. Find an isolator or eq of some sort and run envelopes to make the mix more real.

I have made three cds like this before. Two were just of some tracks on my HD to jam out to in the car, and third was a cd of all my own tracks that i just passed to a few close friends.

Hope that helps. I am sure you could obtain the same effect in cubase/logic/dp4/pro tools, but it seems like you want quick and easy and dont feel like reading a manual for 6 months HA.

Itd be funny as hell if i actually used one of those cds for a dj demo. HA, somebody would realize real quick that shit was fake. God knows it seems like all my mix cds have at least one flaw, esp live ones (due to old needles at venue, beers, etc)
