Every Sunday there are turntables and people in the park down between Deep Ellum and Fair Park (the one with the huge concrete pillars). They kick it off around 5pm. There's a cop sub-station about a block away and they have left everyone alone for about 2 or 3 years now. Check it out sometime.

Disclaimer: It's mostly DnB.

there are plenty of great club nights to go to right now... go out and pay the cover and have some drinks...

thats how to help the scene grow...

The problem is that we have so many different events at clubs (bars) spread out all over the metroplex etc. It would be cool if people would just support each other regardless of genre, etc, etc. Larger nights at one main club , Is that to much to ask for?

i understand that there is plenty going on...but the point of the post had to do with an idea to expand to different people who are not going to be in the "scene"

regular people gaining a different respect for what we all love...

i get the idea that it doesn't have to be huge, just proper quality tunes with a good accompanying environment...would that be a danger

daytime rulezzz

zubar
shade
tantra

all i'm saying is there is bound to be something you enjoy going on at an existing event at an existing club/bar... you can go and support that event(s) and that is a great way to help the scene grow without creating yet another event that will need a ton of support to stay alive
The "scene" is alive and well. Now all you need to do is actually go out and support it rather than try to create another event. So record sales may be down, there is not a direct connection with that and the condition of our underground dance scene. I don't get it. People want to bitch that the scene here is so broken, which is not the case. We don't need more events, we need to educate more people by getting them to the events that already exist.

If you want the edm scene to grow then get those "different people" to come to the events that already exist.

Otherwise they still won't get it.

It should be marketed to them in a way that they will REALLY get involved and be as passionate about it as many of us are.

It's not about spinning records in the mall parking lot. It's about getting more people interested in what we have going on at proper parties and night clubs and bars around town.

(Question to think about)

What made you fall in love with the music and all that accompanies it???

Maybe something along those lines is what we need.

this is the truth. I've noticed a trend(in the house community, at least) where we have people bringing talent in for a party and they think this is what it's all about. Whatever happened to the idea that a local promoter's job is to push what's going on here locally, build a vibe(hello, gothouse) and bring in outside talent to enhance that vibe........instead of depending on your guest.

I think these are all good comments made by everyone. It would be dope to have more people come to the events that Dallas already has. I just think it would be cool to try to jumpstart the dance scene up a little 'more'. Some people are saying don't try to expand, just come out and support what we have...isn't that saying the same thing in a way? I'm not tryin' to hate or put anybody down at all but I think we should do something more than just pass out flyers and post here on Dallas Dance Music. People who go out and pass out flyers and who post on here and do other things are the shit! They are the ones who are getting it done, I just think we should try to focus it all in a new direction. Another thing that I think is happening (in my opinion) and it happens with all genres is that Dance was bad ass in the 90's and now it's kind of dying out in some ways. Some day I think it will be huge again. BUt like everyone said, it's how you're looking at it, what does 'the scene is dead' or the 'scence is alive' really mean? I am personally happy no matter what is going down just because I fuckin love dance music, fuck it if it isn't popular. But it's not so much as getting dance popular again as getting 'people to feel and see dance music as we do' as some bad ass shit that you just can't explain and you want to share it. That's what I say we do, go out to others if what we want to do is share what we love. Really in the end it doesn't matter (well it does to club owners in some ways but...) if tons of people are coming out to support, we're all doing what we love and we're trying to share it with others.

Fuck, maybe I don't know what I'm saying
