People want to bitch that the scene here is so broken, which is not the case. We don't need more events, we need to educate more people by getting them to the events that already exist.
The record sales are down where Dallas? USA? Worldwide? If they are down anywhere it would have to be down in a retail store enviroment. More and more djs/hobbiest are buying through e-commerce locations because they can get it cheaper. Store fronts will have to see what they can do to become more attractive to the majority of buyers again. I spin psy-trance. This style was incredibly sparse in Dallas record stores. I think I bought maybe 5 of my records at stores in Dallas - Oak Lawn and Bills Records from years ago. I have been buying all my music on-line from Hong Kong. You know what even with guaranteed 3 day shipping I still get my cds for almost $2.00/cd cheaper than stateside stores in Cali, WA, MA, or NY. Then you compound that with a lot of music be released to cd, yeah you have a problem.

You know what though, neither of them has anything to do with "lack of a scene". When people are going online for their music they are still buying it. Those people are also the same people who play as a bedroom dj, or a currently known dj. More music being put to cd, only means that there is a shift to bring more mediums into the djs foray. Yes, it does take away from some vinyl being printed, but we are talking small numbers overall. Coincidentally, as have been said in previous threads, most all psy-trance is on cd. There are very few releases on vinyl, maybe 20% of all that is released. I was once a vinyl junkie, and now I am a cd junkie. Still doesn't hurt "the scene".

If anything is hurting the scene these are a few:

1.Lots of people can't stand all the kids at the Lizard Lounge - the bigger the headliner the more kids.

2.Certain places don't have much of anything to call a dance floor.

3.The majority of bars have really shitty speakers - last I knew we were there for the sound of music, not music with no clarity and lots of distortion.

Like I said just a few.......please take into an account that I do support the scene. I will go to certain house events, DnB, and trance. I will go to very few "big" headliner events......not my thing anymore. I am one who swears to never step foot into the Lizard Lounge again.

I could type forever, so just chew on this.........

there are a couple non-denominational churches in plano - one near spring creek and coit and one near hedgecoxe and coit - that have dj booths and sound stages in their youth rec-rooms. i dont attend church there or anything but ive been in there a couple times while working and they have really nice set-ups that are for exactly what you are talking about. young kids are getting exposed to somekind of electro jams while going to church.
when i first saw these rec rooms i thought a church like either of these would be fun to go to.

daytime party's sounds nice and all but i think the problem with that is most people work in the daytime.

We should try throwing more outdoor campout raves like they do throughout the midwest in summer and spring.
