![]() | Maybe to help the scene grow we...
And maybe this has been said before, but I think Dallas Dance Music should have more outdoor events where people of all ages and types can go. I've always had this recurring daydream where I'm driving in my car past the mall or some shit and I see a Dj set up and playing inside the parking lot, or to make things weirder at the corner of a stop-light intersection. I mean if I was a kid and coming out of some place and a Dj was playin good music right there where I could watch him (become exposed), I'd be like, "oh shit, what the hell is all of this? It sounds bad ass" I think there are so many kids out there that have no idea that they could make their own beats, etc. or even know where to begin. I think we should educate. Also, what do you guys think about holding events during the "day" as well as the night (more so during the day on weekends)? By doing some of this I think we'll not only get younger kids exposed, and like us, grow to love it and become the future of dance music, but I'm guessing we'll get all types of older people as well. All this shit might be too tall of an order and I guess everything will turn out o.k. in the end, but I think the Dallas Dance scene needs to expose itself more to those that might not normally get the chance. Just a few thoughts... |

Those are good thoughts. I have always thought arts festivals would be a good enviroment for down tempo or even really glitchy breaks.

That's not true. It's been done, and I agree it should be done again. There are numerous places that will allow an outdoor event. I would say,it would be much easier to have an outdoor event during the daytime, streching on into the evening. It's hard to have an all night event because of the problems it causes(so says the city). There are numerous parks that allow stuff to go on. If a church can set up sound and a band and have a revival at a park. Why can't we? If a club can set up a band out back of their place in there parking lot and sell beer all day on into the night. Why can't we. If game stop can have a Dj come and play at the release date of Halo 2. Why can't we find a place to do this stuff. I think if we put our heads together anything can be done and it can be done legally. I am all for spreading the vision,if we don't who will,if we don't reach youger generations, they will all be lost in top 40 world. Well maybe not all,but you get my drift. If anyone wants to get together and do some stuff let a brutha know.

I actually reall dig that idea! There have been like two instances in Wichita Falls TX where we did this and it was highly successful: One was at the mall at Journeys where the manager was an avid party goer and brought in several local DJs to play on Tables right there in the store!! Many of the local kids as well as adults got to see mixing and EDM live! They also got to see what real independent dance music was. It was great..and made alot of people think twice about bad reps on the Dance scene. The second time is when i did a live mix for my friends up at the Fasion Bug. I set up for their sidewalk sale outside and played for nearly 6 hours. Mostly Deep house and chill stuff..but many of the 30, 40, 50 yr old female shoppers really enjoyed it and considered it one of the neatest things while they shopped! I totally agree..there should be more things like that!

maybe we could have a radio show devoted this music and when people are flipping thru the stations they will be exposed to it and then they will love it forever.
