Worst Venues

im sure alot of local musicians have had several problems in throwing the gigs the way they are meant to be planned at certain venues.
To give a heads up i thought this thread was important and a long time coming.
So which venue in the dfw area is the worst venue to play at and why...?
which venue should djs and bands avoid all together?
consider this as a buyer beware of sorts,,,,..

if you are going to play at a place.. just walk in the door and you should be able to tell in 5 min or less if the place is going to be worthy.

yeah but you have to take in consideration the regulars (crowd taste) on different days, the staff (very important in my opinion), the equipment, past shows (diff peoples opinions), etc... You can pick up a lot of that by walking in, feeling the vibe, but some of it takes time.

we arent trying to bash any venues, but speaking from experience

i would have to say dream world music complex was one of the worst venues we have ever played.
lack of experience and the "soundmen" are terrible....lack of communication amd what seemed like on purpose...we would have to warn any band playing there to be wary of these people...very disrespectful and uncoordinated.

Afterlife was the worse place I played, the roof top of Art Bar sucked ass, Division One. There's a few others but I'm not naming the names.

Never, NEVER play at The Velvet Hookah with expectations of something good and long-term. The owner is a scandalous, bi-polar, lying, ex DJ who cares about nothing but himself. Oh, and he likes to stiff people on pay.

Dude, don't hate. It is a ROOFTOP for G-d's sake. You could have easily been across the way playing Top 40 at The Bone.

Jay Winborn used to rock summers on top of that place (even with their subpar system). Ask your boy, Dr. C.

the roof deck can suck ass. especially if it's cold or windy, however the manager (whit) is cool as fuck. Definitely the best i've worked with (which isn't a lot, but still). Also, the location is dope, dead center deep ellum: it's good for walk-ins. And the downstairs bar has kind of a down to earth feel IMO. particularly if they have the pool table set up.

Ok, I picked those venues cause they really sucked or the sound was terrible and art bar roof sucked ass for sound, fucking terrible. Shity ass American DJ mixer, busted as mon. needles skipping left and right, the tables were actually in ok condition. didn't drift.

Afterlife: was the dirtiest drugged out den I've ever seen, sound was fucked, mixer was jacked, tables sucked ass, needles were bad, the people there wouldn't know good music even if they bought it and watching kids snort drugs off counter tops is funny, because the security guards tripped on having beer inside there, but you have kids snorting felony drugs of your counters is ok?

Division One: Owners were the worse people in the world, shity drinks, and having to bring your own mixer and shit out to play = no way.

Lizard Lounge Roof: Just as bad as Afterlife and Art Bar Roof, Tables were shot, needles didn;t have a arm on them to pick them up and the lift on the tables didn't work, mon. was nothing but highs and the mon. was also the only speaker working up there, all the mixers knobs were gone, channles bleeding.

Art Bar and the roof were cool (enjoyable) a few years back, but that was different owners then. as far as worst venues for dj's: almost everyone on greenville. never have had an enjoyable time? go figure!
