Does this really work? - Dallas Dance Music - Dallas nightlife, music, tickets, and more

I seen this phenomena on a few boards before - so, does posting that you're "in town" and an amazing DJ really get you gigs anywhere? I've seen quite a few of these recently, and I wonder if any promoters actually hire these people. E.g.,

"Hey! I'm DJ BlahBlah from CA and I'll be in Dallas from ##-##. So book me now and save $$$!!!"

'cause, you know, if that works, I'll be Dallas this Saturday...
