ok so -- are there names for varying beat patterns in dnb? if so, what are their names, and could you briefly explain these patterns or provide a short audio sample (please)? thanks

there was a package goin around with different breaks, there's like 250 different breaks in it. Maybe someone can post the link, but most of the breaks in the pack can be found in big name dnb tracks. it's all old funky breaks from soul songs and shit.

basicly, you have your breaks that can be used plain jane, mashed up, or layered with others, and also you bog standard two-step beat which can be made from sampled one shots of kits and or snippets from those old breaks. as for patterns, hmmmm. well, there are tons. but we'll keep it basic. 2 step = boom----tick, boom-tick. simple as fuck. and then there are break patterns = boooom tish tickity-tickity clack boom boom clak ,,,, ok, but there are far too many to go on about so I'll just list a few common breaks that you've probably heard. you can google for the actual audio because they are extremely common. amen (the original bad boy) apache (bongos) cold sweat, funky drummer, etc (james brown..) hellicopter tramen (second gen. break made from a mixture of an amen and a few other breaks[has a clangity-clang ride in it]) hope that kind of gets you started..
