![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Depeche Mode- "Playing The Angel" my review
Ever since the cd release, everytime i've left my house i have been asked by several people what my opinion is. People have stopped me on the street and asked this. So here is my official review: overall: B+ faves: A Pain That Im Usd To (by far the best track IMO), Suffer Well, Darkest Star, Precious, Sinner In Me My favorite CD release by them? No, not by far. The biggest let down for me was the Martin Gore solo songs. Which is one of the things that every DM freak looks forward to. They just didnt do it for me this time around, nor did the Gahan written "Lilian". But more than anything, I DO appreciate the spirit of experimentation, even if somtimes the motive is unclear. Personally, I think they should stick with Tim Simenon as their producer. He did a phenomenal job on "ULTRA", whereas this producer I think only captured the DM essence here and there. While he did bring in some refreshing visions, i think some things that make DM who they are were lost in the translation. I do recommend he cd on the whole, but go in with a clean mental slate about what you'd expect to hear from them. 8/10

Man you gave it a pretty high score, with a review that doesn't reflect it. I've only heard it twice, but both times I didn't like it as much. Exciter had its ups and downs; more downs. And it felt way too commercial. PTA seemed more on the standards of their older stuff; but with the commercial feel to it. So I can't dig it too much. Ultra was a fantastic LP; very dark, and just awesome all around. I give that one an 8/10. PTA I give a 6/10 What martin gore solos do you mean? The actual LP's he released or did he do some solo songs on PTA? I have both his solo LP's and they are pure garbage. The only thing that carries Gahan's solo LP is the vocals are strong (which is kind of a given) still neither are worth a damn on their own. My favorite DM CD of all time is still Black Celebration, or music for the masses.

Mr Gore always does a couple of solo songs, or should i say 'spotlight' songs on each album. they are usually the more emotional heart wrenching songs, but this time they werent the best. i gave it a 8 for the songs i like plus the experimentation of it. I always add a point for people who try somethin new

My two favorite songs (besides Precious of course) are hands down; Damaged People and Nothing's Impossible. Are either of those Gore's solos? Ah they are sooo beautiful. The vocals are so smooth and delicious. I really like this album....much different than the rest, but I REALLY like it. I Give it an 8/10.
