i just figured it was an was the best possible mid/upgrade sound card, that you could get. Merritt its actually for Parker, i thought it would be the perfect centerpiece for a smallish studio to use with protools, or could he get by wtih just an MBox?

get by with a mbox. spend the money on other things. i'm not sure of his setup.. but if it's minimal- or starting out, i'd start out with something else. is he wanting pro tools? if so, then go with one of their cheaper entry level things.

i'd go with an m-audio or emagic piece and spend the money on a pimp computer (*mac ) and something like DP or Logic. you can do everything inside the computer just as nice and *for me* i dig doing my plugs-ins and eq'ing visually. also... chances are that (and i'm totally assuming, correct me if i'm wrong) Parker really doesn't know all the in's and out's of the recording & sequencing programs. he'll need to focus on that and not some big complicated (only complicated in that it's *another* piece of gear you gotta learn) mixing/digital station. these day's it's just not needed. if he get's to tag along as dj am's new producer and is making bank.. then yea- go for it down the road. but spending $100-$300 on some other I/O vs $2K, i'd go to vegas with the saved $$$. hope that helps. and this is my advice. the thing with studios is everybody has a hard on for a set up one way or another. just do what really makes sense. if you need a shitload of outboard inputs... just buy an analog mixer and plug into the cheaper breakaway I/O box.

that's quite an old version of logic if it's on the PC.

I love Logic to death. But I'm on 7.1.1. I remember getting some screwed up crack of 5.5 and wanting to cry. I scoot by on an M-Audio firewire 410. But when I'm in the big studio I play with the Motu MKII 828. Logic has everything you'll ever need.

J.Feez, mbox and Digi002 are both Le and will run the same plugs, the 002 also comes in a rack mont version for less. The new mbox is great as well, nice focusrite pre's and built in midi. ProTools 7.1.1 is unreal, instrument channels, recycle/rex file compatibility and any vst can be converted to rtas. I work on all platforms often and IMHO, PT tops all.
