Luke "Plug, Wagon Christ, Amen Andrews" Vibert - Dallas Dance Music - Dallas nightlife, music, tickets, and more

Luke ‘Wagonchrist’ Vibert at long last returs to Rephlex (his ³
³ first release for the label was over 10 years ago kids!) and ³
³ delivers 4 excruciatingly good nu-hardcore (there goes the ³
³ microgenre) cuts to mess with yo heads. Dropping in with ³
³ ‘Starbase One’, no messing about and straight for the jugular ³
³ with breakbeats rassed up to the bassbin max, and basslines so ³
³ heavy they’d be impossible to lift. At 180 bpm this isnt for the ³
³ faint hearted, yet neither is it as full on as the recent AFX or ³
³ Bug releases, more like an updated ‘Drum ‘n’ Bass for Papa’ (one ³
³ of thebest D’n’B album ever!). The heavy and sharp beats are ³
³ backed by the catalogue of samples that Vibert favours, and nice ³
³ Rhodes samples deliver that atmosphere so prevalent on his Plug ³
³ releases. But, its down to the bassline on this track, reminding ³
³ me of DJ Hype’s heavier jump up moments a la Super Sharp ³
³ Shooter, it takes the track to another level, and keeps it dark, ³
³ outrageous. Secondly the aptly titled ‘Amental’ delivers its ³
³ title in true form, spannered Amen cut ups mix with the spooky ³
³ swooping synths and a spaced out ragga vocal that drags me back ³
³ to 92-93 and the advent of the Kemet crew and ragga jungle. The ³
³ edits are superbly placed and that quirky Vibert from Big Soup ³
³ returns with some crazy samples and wild percussion lines that ³
³ layer under the plethora of samples and synths to give a mish ³
³ mash sound that is perfect for these tracks, too good. Flip for ³
³ the straight up gangster jungle of ‘100001 Style’, plenty of ³
³ ragga samples, ‘Special Request Soundbwoy’, and a parody of the ³
³ infamous Altern 8 sample ‘Watch yer bassbins, im telling you’ ³
³ rolling over the top. The track mashes beats and bass even to ³
³ the break where a half step hip hop beat runs underneath with ³
³ the dark bassline creeping up and then hits full mentalism for ³
³ the run up to the end, he’s a mad bwoy our Vibert. Lastly, the ³
³ operatic start to ‘Fast and Bulbous’ and the techno kiks make it ³
³ stand out, a weird beginning to a track so heavy on the edits im ³
³ still discovering things after 4 listens, and finishing the ³
³ track with a (shhh!) Captain Beefheart sample is an apt way to ³
³ end what is some of the best work ever by Luke Vibert. First ³
³ installment of 5 planned releases - truly unmissable.

what the heck is up with the mini 3's on your margins...I love that guy he should have done much more in my opinion. I think he was hated on because whom he was associated with.
