![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Help me understand this particualr music trend...i just dont get it
OKAY...I'm all about something new, BUT...this stuff thats coming out which is basically an ultra familiar hook from some mainstream pop song with a ghetto house beat under it. Why are people freaking out over this stuff? I'm speaking for instance of this "Wait a minute Mr. Postman" thing and the stuff like that. I just dont get it, but apparently people love it. Its produced like ass, the vocal samples dont ever really make any since, the tracks go nowhere, and theres nothing to them. It actually puts me in a bad mood if i hear several of them in a row. What and why is this stuff?

I think it's just because they recognize the hooks. Who knows

sublime is a perfect example......they played instruments like shit when it comes down to it but there one of my favorite bands....why? because of the vibe. not saying what you speak of is good music but. thats the way it works sometimes

b-more is some of the simplest shit you can produce but still fun music imo 1.loop up some breaks and 808 claps 2.find a sample 3.chop it up and stretch it 4.put it 2gether

i was never a big fan of the ghetto house stuff, so i can see how this would have gone right by me for several years as it apparently has. I guess i thought it had come and gone, but am i wrong in thinking that its seeing a re-emergance? It seems like i'm starting to hear that sound a lot more, again, just with different samples. I had never heard that Postman thing until about a month or two ago, and since then i hear it all the time. And that write up Alvin posted....speaking about clubs that play that sound exclusively, and most of the tracks have beats sampled from the same two songs for the most part. I'd kill myself!! I can see how dropping one in every now and again would hype up a crowd... but all night , with the same sampled beats in every track?!?!?!? ew

Technics has actually written some great shit. Some b-more tunes especially the classics are straight up housey as thats what b-more was to begin with. You might like this...you might not. Check it out http://www.turntablelab.com/assets/a...504/143099.ram I'm not disagreeing that some of the music can be a bit laughable or even redundant but it can sure as hell be fun. I think thats essentially what it boils down to. People are just wanting to enjoy themselves so the music they're listening to can have a sense of humor.

I think the Ghetto House DJ's still tour over there. And remember when Daft Punk was first coming onto the scene their dj sets were extremely heavy on Dance Mania Ghetto House...they even name check the ghetto dj's on the track on their album "Teachers". http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/daftpunk/teachers.html The sound has influenced the "tech house" scene also..remember the track "Ghetto Tears" that was big a while back (I played it Friday at Zubar)? And I believe you have played this also... http://www.discogs.com/release/89955 Which was sampled from Dj Assault... http://www.discogs.com/release/57260 Who in turn sampled the Robert Armani track "UP". http://www.discogs.com/release/3392 And Robert Armani helped the Ghetto House dj's with their early productions... So in essence you may have been a fan all along, but may not has realized it...

i thought it was called ghetto tech. dj funk rocks and so does dj assault. but too me none of these tracks compare to "sex on the beach" 15 DJ Assault Sex On The Beach (4:16) 16 Belizbeha Inhibitions (Clear Horizons Mix) (3:08) 17 Maurizio 7 (2:59) daft punk live at the bunker played stuff like this as well. where it was liked an old school funk song. when i was 18 i would geek out on this shit like crazy. sex on the beach was like my theme song. |
