Torq & Traktor pro/cons?

Has anyone used both programs enough to compare and contrast?

Isn't traktor just an internal mixing program? Torq runs in internal and also has vinyl, cd control. I'm using it atm and the moment and enjoy it. Its pretty good for a first generation product but still has a few bugs. Most get fixed just about every update though.

Traktor Scratch replaced Finalscratch 2 this year. It is a vinyl controlled software package.

It also has certified mixers from korg and mackie that allow you to not need the hardware interface. Just the mixer.

I use the bcf 2000 to control traktor. I'm not entirely sure why one would WANT to control digital files with time-coded vinyl. It seems like that's just inviting another variable that could go wrong. You also have to bring along a turntable! However it is one less you have to carry. I mean if dj's are so concerned with 'keepin' it real' why bother, but if it's strictly the feel of vinyl, then I understand. I think we're all looking for a bit of convenince while still preserving elements of the performance.

Now remember there is two different versions of Tracktor out there

1. DJ Traktor Studio 3.2.
Which is a program used in the place of turntables, CDJ's ect.. It can be used with Finalscratch.

2. NI Traktor Scratch.
Which is a hardware and software package that replaced Stanton's Finalscratch 2 package. The advantage to Traktor Scratch is the ability to not purchase the soundcard module and instead use one the of the certified mixers from Korg, or Mackie. These mixers are both MIDI controllers and soundcards and analog mixers all in one.

Torq pros : Supports any third party VST effects, Rewire w/ any application like ableton. Fully midi assignable. Along w/ the connectiv box, torq can be used internally or external. Already includes 10 effects on each deck (can use up to 3 simultaneously),QuickScratch (button) feature allows instant scratching with two loaded samples............ehhh all i can think of. But right now its the best alternative to Serato atm.

i think all the computer stuff is cool, but people really like to see turntables. I personally don't think it matters if you play off a 8 track, or an iPod, but decks seem to add a visual element, and the idea of "playing an instrument"(you haven't seen any guitar players give up a Strat for an Mac book pro, even though they could probably program some very realistic solos using computer software). If you see someone pressing buttons on a computer, then its not only boring, but lends itself to staring at the comp. and not having any room presence. I had a guy that is some old dj type, tell a club owner that Serato was wack, and that the comp matched beats for me. I cant even really mix all that great, so it has to be a preconcieved idea, that all computer software mixes songs for you. I know your asking about torq and traktor(i know the both have vinyl options), but it seems like the best option is serato. Thats coming from a Serato user. Its VERY stable(which torq is still working out bugs, sometimes quick, sometimes not so quick, if this is Traktors first go at vinyl then there will prolly be some bugs.), lots of tech support, lots of users from local djs to big time guys, and it seems the most close to conventional djing with cds or tts. The lack of efx seems to be an advantage, in that, the less processor load you have the more stable the program is(could be completely wrong). An outboard efx unit, or mixer efx unit alway seems easier to me anyway.

With Traktor scratch and a Korg Zero4. The soundcard is built into the mixer, and there is effects on every channel as well as the master channel.

When I go see a dj spin, I am not really there to 'see him', I am there to dance. Actually I find it rather annoying when the whole dance floor is staring at the dj (it's usually guys that don't know how to dance or guys lacking in social skills, therefore they won't ask any females to dance) If a dj loves what he's doing, it shows through the music. I could give a shit about what tools he's using. That's clearly a matter of preference. It's time to shift the perspective. The people on the dance floor are the 'performers' and they're only as good as the dj. If the room is staring up at you as you spin, you haven't done your job very well.

i was just sayin its easy to get stuck in your laptop getting into things, and not paying attn. to the crowd. Even with decks and serato, there are times when i just kinda forget to read the dancefloor.
