Korg Karma vs Korg Triton

I've read a lot of threads in this forum and it's been really helpful, especially with software! But, for those hardware synth users...which do you perfer? The Karma or the Triton?

I know that the Karma is actually built on the Triton's sounds, but has a new appregiator and other real-time "accompany" but the Triton has that neat little touch screen menu.

I personally really like my Trinity. It's a Triton 'Lite' for lack of a better term, but it's still a very powerful tool in its own right. It's a very solid workstation. Oh, and it has the touch screen too.

PM me if you'd be interested in making me an offer on it. It's still in great condition.

I owned a Kama for a while and Its a pretty good board. I would prefer it way over the triton. I was using it for my primary source for sounds at the time and it wasnt cutting it. It would definately be a good second board. The sweetness is in the GE's. You can create crazy patterns/arp's/glissandos/ect ect and have an insane amount of control over the paramters. With the new Karma software you can edit patches and create your own GE's on the computer, which kicks ass, and often makes me wish I hadnt sold it. The sounds are good for what they are, and theres is a very wide variety of them. The sounds are Triton-like. Sample based with some envelope control and what not. I would like to use the GE's to control a good VA synth. To anyone looking into buying a karma or triton, I would suggest the karma, but thats just me. It just seems to have a mch more open format than the triton. If you have any ?'s contact me, I's be happy to help.

Actually the Triton is just a newer version of the Trinity. The basic sound engines are the exact same ... the Triton just adds minor features and updates. The Trinity series came out in 96/97 if I remember correctly and then the Triton was 99.

A Triton LE just came out this spring which would be more along the lines of a Triton Lite. It lacks the big touch screen of the Triton and uses the the thinner letterboxed screen as seen on the Karhma and the old z1's.

as I recall...

the Triton is an updated version of the Trinity but has a completely different engine. you can get the MOSS expansion that is actually the Trinity/Z1 engine and add that on top of the original. I love my Triton.. I use is as my main controller for everything else (Nord Rack 2, Yamaha A3K, Planet Earth, Reason, FM7, and so on) & for the great sounds it has in it. The big touch screen helps out a lot when switching from one thing to another! If you are looking for a powerfull synth and a great controller, I totally recomend the Triton. It's miles apart from the Trinity, but the Karma is a pretty dope board as well. It's all what you need.

have you tried a pan flute yet?

The MOSS Card was availible for the Trinity as well. The trinity/triton sound engines are both based on system called ACCESS which integrates the old legacy AI2 engine ( orignally introduced in the late 80s with the classic Korg M1 and then the 05w) and an 8part FX engine(4 stereo) with MOSS which is Korg's Analog Modeling spec (originally introduced in the Prophecy). The MOSS board for the Trinity/Triton is essentially a z1 (the 2nd analog modeler Korg put out which was a polysynth versus the Prophecy which was a monosynth).

There are actually very few diffrences 'synthesis' wise between the Trinity and the Triton. I remember being 11(im 22 now) and wanting a M1 ... they were still 'legendary' at the time. I'm glad I got my kurzweil k2000 though ... its a 10+ year old engine that is still cutting edge today (in its present form the k2600).

kurzweil's fx & synth take tha cake. it's a hassle to learn, but kills everything else on the market (in a programming sense). on a side note, i too use a triton as my main controller. k26= mad loot

Bobby you are correct

my bad... it's been ages since I've even thought about the tech sepc of the Triton. It serves its purpose and I haven't thought about it since. I don't even use the sampler and sequencer in my triton. I could have prolly gotten by with the Triton Le but they didn't have it out yet.

dude, the M1 is one of my favorite organ sounds!!! I've got this new track that has 'em in it! a nice rhodes can bring memories back too.

the kurzweil is a totally incredible board! i know a few people that have one and they ALL love it.

I would go with a Triton for sure! get a triton with the MOSS (z1) upgrade you'll want that. Then you'll have yourself a very nice and well reounded workstation keyboard. The Karma seemed gimicky to me too. It seemed less professinoal and didnt have as many features as the Triton. I played with one for a while at Guitar Center and it didnt impress me that much. Its got the nifty knob-turn sequencer feature that you can use to manipulate the sequencing in it but it doesnt have a sampler, something that is quite nice in the Triton. Tritons are more professional, better feel, better interface, has a sampler, and would rock the house with the MOSS upgrade. I thought about getting a Triton for the sampler but then yamaha a4000 distracted me at the time
