Recommend Hardware Synths & VST's

Is there a recommended Hardware Synth/VST list? I haven't seen one so i think this would be a good thing for people to use if they wanna try to find some new sound's but dont know where to look.

Personally I love the Native-Instruments VST Synth Line

FM8
Massive
& Absynth 4 (these are ones i personally have and use)

I dont have any hardware synths and am looking into one but want recommendations on those since they are a bit more expensive.

The only piece of hardware I am interested in, that does things that I just cannot achieve without back-breaking time-consuming manipulation and resampling using plugins would be a Virus.

Well he asked for a list of hardware. If you want real synthesis and not to be using the same rehashed cracked plugin patches that everyone in the industry is using you have to make an investment.

Cheap Synths:
PSRE403- 199.99
MicroKorg- 399.99
Alesis Micron- 399.99
Novation XIO- 349.99
Dave Smith Evolver- 499.99

Considering plugin's range from 199.99-499.99 they are about the same. But im guessing most people dont pay for their plugins and thats a whole nother thread

Some of my favs:

Spectrasonics Atmosphere- More of a rompler than a synth but the samples they use are stunning and can be greatly manipulated to create custom patches.

Spectrasonics Trilogy- Again sample based but room for lots of tweaking, there are some great bass sounds in there.

NI- Kontakt (still figuring this out) You can mangle anything you put into it, chop up breaks, add effects, resample and mangle some more. Just getting into this one as it's a little complicated but seems to be immensely powerful.

Arturia- Pretty much everything they make kicks some serious ass and is a synth tweakers delight.

Hardware-

Novation Supernova (goes for about 300-500)
Waldorf Microwave XT (500)-this beast can morph wavetables
Dave Smith's Evolver (400-500)-the step child of Sequential's Prophet VS, Vector Synthesis
Roland Juno 106 (300) The parts are digital but, with some teaking, it can sound like a System 100.

People bitch about cost. If your committed to music you'll find a way. If your not, well you'll just sound like every other retard who claim they're the next big thing while their track plays back those lame orchestral REX files from their Reason Soundbank.

Evolver is not vector synthesis its actually hybrid analog and digital. Unlike the VS. A yamaha sy32 or above would be more vector. There is no real way to morph between four synthesis algorythems in the evolver. you can only crossfade between two, not true vector.

Good list however the 106 can be hard to find and even harder to maintain. The DCO's can go out easily after a couple years and they are expensive to replace. I have sunk way too much money into mine! A newer synth with better parts might be a better investment for a beginner.

I own the evolver and truth be told it spanks all my other boards hard!

I guess I wasn't clear. I was refering to the Prophet VS as vector. I have Evolver Envy. I want one.
It's my opinion that the juno 106 is a great beginner synth and they're easy to find. You're prob. right about the sensitivity of the machine. Fortunately mine has been rock solid.

If you buy the evolver be sure to invest the 50 bones in the VST editor. It makes manouvering the thing a million times easier!!! I may be using this guy with my machine drum live at southern junktion!
