![]() | cart contacts inside the tone arm...
what's the best way to clean these? i am having recurring problems with sound & have come to the conclusion that the contacts aren't responding properly. i have 1200 m3d's & ortofon carts. if i take out the cart & put a little spit on the contacts then screw them back in, it seems to correct the problem, temporarily. ideas? suggestions? thanks in advance!

Yeah I used to use this method as well, but spit on the cart contacts will build up a rust on the contacts that can ruin them. If you look inside the arm you will probably see a residue on the contacts try and take a bobby pin or something sharp and small enough to fit inside the arm and scrape clean the contacts. Once you have started using spit, water, etc to conduct electricity thru the arms you might be screwed and stuck using that method until you replace the arms or contacts. It is also possible to take the tone arm off and pull the contacts out farther so they make contact with the needle end but I am not experienced in doing this, Frankie Vega is the one who told me about this so maybe he will see this thread or you can track him down for more info hope this helps peace

It could be a wire short out in the arm and the only thing to fix that is new wiring and arms. Usually only costs around $150 an arm not to bad! Good luck

Get a new #2 pencil, and take the eraser and lightly rub off the carbon build up on both the needle and the tone arm. When doing the tone arm make sure to blow out any eraser shardes that may have been left. Now this is a method I use successfully most of the time when a customers decks are only working out of one side. If the problem persists, look at the contacts in the arm and make sure one or more of the contacts have not been pushed in to far and no longer making contact (new tone arm needed). And yet if the problem still persists, pm me or call me at 214-358-2623 and ask for Brett. I've got some other tricks, but can not disclose for I would have to kill all on this board.Bawhhahahahaahhaaa. For real though if the bitch don't wanna work, bring it to me.

The pencil trick works great on all sorts of metal contacts .. I used to use it to clean remote control battery contacts all the time ... Try that nerio and see if it helps ... -wes
