torq

Could someone with experience with torq give me an honest assessment. I'm thinking about getting it, but the guys at guitar center don't seem to know much about the products they sell. Help please!

You have a specific question? I have it and really like it, it does everything Final Scratch used to do for me but with a better user interface and no need to dual boot(this was eliminated in later versions of FS).

for the money, it sounds outstanding, but from what ive read previously from just a few posts, that it wasnt too dependable for serious giging (the i/o interface anyway). the interface looks awesome on screen, and seems fairly simple to operate.

i work at guitar center, but do not own it, so it wouldnt be fair for me to pretend im an expert...is that what you really really expect from a random salesman?

i understand u want at least one person in the store to be familiar with THE item you are interested in, but unless m-audio is giving this software away for the purpose of learning the software, that wont happen unless that one guy happens to be working when you come in, because we have to buy it (yes at a discount, but still with our own personal money)

some of us that are actually dj's know some of the features, like beat synch, key lock, 16 part sampler (which seems wicked), vst integration, an stuff like that, but all of this info can be found at gc's website, and m - audio's.

I didn't mean this as a diss on guitar center employees, I hope you weren't offended.

Titan recommended Traktor to my friend and she bought it but I own the Torq Xponent and honestly it hasnt given me even the littlest problem... it was extremely easy to install and get up and running and it does everything you'd need a dj rig to do.

i recommend it

I haven't had any problems with the software or hardware, which is more than I can say for the old FS hockey puck.

Traktor's the shit...I have version 3.3 and can use Traktor Scratch with it...it rocks...I had Serato before and I liked it, but Traktor Scratch had more/better features...Serato still rocks, but I like the ability to be able to record straight into it, loop function, etc...I don't know what newer versions of Serato offer, but that's just my opinion

yeah, I was just saying that Torq has all of that as well and I thought Torq was easier to get setup.

ditto.

i dont like torq's recording, u can record your mix in stand alone, but from what m - audio told us, u cant record your mix internally if u are using external decks.

again, i havent used it, this is just 2nd hand info.

still recommend traktor 3.3 + scratch (audio 8) box...but if u are on a budget, i suppose torq should be ok.

That sounds right from my experience, but I don't like using the same PC to play the mp3s and record simultaneously. It seems ripe for CPU spikes.

I use it. It has its idiosyncrasies but can be quite enjoyable to play with. It can prove a tad more sensitive or prone to issues arising with your actual gear that serato at times.

Regardless, I personally enjoy using it compared to any program I've used as an honest opinion. Every mixtape I've recorded in at least the last yr. has been on Torq.

Fair warning though. If you're expecting to gig out alot keep in mind that serato is pretty damn close to "the standard". Doesn't really mean nything tho as alot of people who use serato never have a power supply for it, thus not making it any easier to transition from computer to computer.

ya know I'll probably back that up. Torq is great and I'm not planning on getting rid of it but serato is a better investment just for the sake of making things easier on yourself.
