give your demo's to people who actually put on parties at clubs. go to places you like, get to know the people and dj's there. Don't beg for gigs

make a bunch of copies and drop them off with the manager of the club with all contact info. the more professional the better. make yourself known with the staff/owner by frequenting and keeping in contact.

go to the club manager and give them to him/her with a good idea on how you are gonna get people to come out to your show. Also if you want to get play time at parties then you need to look at who is throwing alot of the parties and give your demo to that groups promoter.

djing is all about who you know in dallas and how much money you can make for the club with your talent being a second

  • post your mixes in this forum and keep posting up fresh ones on a regular basis. this will showcase your skills as well as your ability to stay current.
  • create a network through your mobile gigs, and stay in touch with them. (myspace?) if you've been doing highschool dances for 4 years, some of your first audiences are getting close to drinking age.
  • if you talk to club management during business hours, make sure you are sober. it seems obvious, but you wouldn't believe the state of mind of some cats that would try to slip me a cd when i was playing out. if possible, get to know them during business hours but arrange to deliver your demo during the day.
  • be professional at all times. yeah, it's ClubLand, but it is still a business.
hope this helps.

Upload your mixes and link them here so people can listen to them and give you feedback. Maybe you might spark some interest through this site.

Indeed.

Make sure your demo is as polished as possible. Besides a good mix, that means an eye-catching look and easy to read contact info.

Even if it's just something basic like a small cue sheet in a paper envelope with your CD, it will stand out more than a silver CD-R with sharpie written all over it.

I can say the same about many other djs...but its not a popularity contest to me, I do it for my love and passion in music and I stay diverse and jealousy free.

There's many ways to do it.. Main thing, just get your face out there, over and over again, with some good demos.. and dont talk alot of shit..

yeh that shows how weak the scene is here, not tryin to say there aint a lot of good promoters and djs here but crowds are generally light.

If you want a gig you have to be - persistent , good at what you do, be friendly (good at chattin people up) and lucky...

Ive taken many a shit gig where by I have had to play to crowds Id rather not but I get paid pretty good and sometimes you get leads and new contacts through it so you'd be wise to try all avenues to get your foot in the door.
