EQing educate me on this

I'm just wondering how the lot of you cut out the instrumental music of a song with just leaving the vocal present. I know some super EQ skills are needed to obtain this process. help with any info please.

thanks

I don't use a program that uses VSTs.

well, the reality is is cant be done on modern music. You can use a combing filters to notch out standard frequencies but it still takes out other things and leaves remnensce of the vocal track

yeah, what Grey said. Without the broken down parts, there's only so much you can do. On a lot of older stuff, just because of they way it was recorded you have better luck. I used a plug in on a track by The Who and sucked the music right on out of it...but i tried it with the same plug in on a Depeche Mode track to epic failure. So......there ya go

Maybe you could find us all an LCD Soundsystem acapella? I've been wanting to sample them for a while.

if you have the instrumental of part of the song that is EXACTLY the same but without the words, all you have to do is invert one of the waves and copy/paste in sound forge

the thing with this is it must be the exact same music just without the vocals. this often doesnt work well with wax either because the slight change in speed of the record.

i do it all the time with tracks and am successful about 80% of the time
