![]() | Denon DN-S1200's and Traktor Scratch Pro
I thought I would post a little mini-review with how I currently have my gear setup. I've fallen in love with my Denon's after going 100% MIDI. I was using Traktor Scratch with the control cd's for quite some time. I originally had Pioneer CDJ200's but sold them because I needed some money (doesn't everyone?). A short while later I bought a pair of Denon DN-S1200's (much props to Gilbert for hooking it up at GC!!!) and took me a little bit of time to get used to them. As weeks went on I kept reading about the awesome MIDI functionality that they are capable of. I did more research and realized I could download a "map" for them which would allow me to control Traktor Scratch without using the time control cd's. That ended up leading me to get Traktor Scratch Pro which provides all of that functionality. I was originally using the MIDI map Denon provides...but I did not like it. The beautiful part about MIDI is you can map it out however you want. And since the 1200's are virtually 100% MIDI capable I designed my own maps. The setup consists of two Denon DN-S1200's, Allen & Heath Xone:92 Rotary, Audio 8 Interface (serving as the soundcard for Traktor Scratch Pro), and an Akai MPD24 for even more MIDI control within Traktor. As of today I have fallen in love all over again with my setup. It's so nice being able to map all of my buttons with the Traktor software and actually make use of the cd players. Before when I was using the time control cd's, the only functionality I was getting from the cd players was the pitch, jog wheel, and the on/off switch. Now I am using almost all of the buttons because I can set them up to do stuff in Traktor. It's fantastic! Playing in a club though is an entirely different story. It would be totally impracticable to lug all my shit to the club. So fuhgettaboudit. But playing at home or a house party is an absolute joy. If you are considering a pair of CDJ400's or DN-S1200's do some research and consider making the switch to MIDI. I have no regrets whatsoever. F'n love it. |
