agreed.

I'd have to say whoever thought bringing swing house back to the scene was a good idea jumped the shark... cough4PEACEcough,cough... j/p man.

i was in high school when homework came out & i found the around the world song 2 be more fun than cheezy & annoyin. it was 1 of the 1st dance music cds i could listen 2 all the way through & LOVED every song. when discovery came out w/ that 1 more time shit i was annoyed. not sayin its bad production. i mean they had a fuckin victoria secret commercial w/ it, but it was OVER commercialized & cheezy as hell & i just haven't liked the stuff after their 1st lp as much.

while i do see your point, and it is a valid one, i think that moment right there was a great one for dance music. the biggest name in hip hop wants to sample that tune and take it to a whole new audience.

but then again - enter hipsters.
And in turn, I can go yes and no to your answer.

This was approached before with Afrika Bambaataa/Soul Sonic Force with "Planet Rock" where the medium was pushed forward. Kanye didn't break a barrier that hadn't been broken through already. I credit Pharrell/The Neptunes more with making Electronic music more accessible to the black community than him. He did at least do something to spark more interest though by him going with the style, though.

Now the flip to all that?

You might remember this little tirade:

http://www.spike.com/video/kanye-wests-mtv/2784958

"If I don't win, the Awards show loses."

LOLwut?

QUICK EDIT: Nice one, Feez. Fatman Scoop please burn in hell.

first off, let me say that was entirely in jest.

and c'mon brent you remember the swing style house from the late 90's right? it had kind of a "roaring 20s" feel. jt was doing alot of it. there were a few fairly big labels that put out nothing but that sound.

i gotta say though, Matt and J. Caprice have been making some really fresh stuff with that kind of sound.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neptunes_discography

Moby - Honey [Neptunes Remix]

Paul Oakenfold: Swordfish: The Album - Lapdance [Neptunes Remix]

Britney Spears -

I'm a Slave 4 U [#1 (worldwide)]
Boys

No Doubt - Hella Good [1] - (#13 Pop) (P. Williams & C. Hugo credited as writers, track produced by Nellee Hooper

Basement Jaxx - Romeo [Neptunes Remix]

And that was just up till 2002.

Stupid level of involvement in the industry on so many levels.
