i was in high school when homework came out & i found the around the world song 2 be more fun than cheezy & annoyin. it was 1 of the 1st dance music cds i could listen 2 all the way through & LOVED every song. when discovery came out w/ that 1 more time shit i was annoyed. not sayin its bad production. i mean they had a fuckin victoria secret commercial w/ it, but it was OVER commercialized & cheezy as hell & i just haven't liked the stuff after their 1st lp as much.

This was approached before with Afrika Bambaataa/Soul Sonic Force with "Planet Rock" where the medium was pushed forward. Kanye didn't break a barrier that hadn't been broken through already. I credit Pharrell/The Neptunes more with making Electronic music more accessible to the black community than him. He did at least do something to spark more interest though by him going with the style, though.

and c'mon brent you remember the swing style house from the late 90's right? it had kind of a "roaring 20s" feel. jt was doing alot of it. there were a few fairly big labels that put out nothing but that sound.
