Any Ableton Live experts feel like helping me map my midi control surface?

I'm running Live 7 with a Novation Nio 2/4 and a Evo UC-33. I downloaded a project that I'm using as my prototype dj set and I can't seem to map this thing for the life of me. The software knows the controller is there but won't seem to map any of the controls as I want.

????

are you getting lights on the transport showing that midi is incoming and when you pick something and turn a knob does a # appear over the control in the software?

im a total ableton noob but i went into controller setup mode or someshit and clicked on the parameter, then twisted the knob/fader/button i wanted to control selected parameter and bamo. rinse, repeat. go back out of that mode and test it, repeat.

go to prefs and make sure the controller you have is set up. mess with the on's and off's.

basically what you are doing is overriding the factory settings of the midi mapping of the keyboard with Live. seems like you have it locked down to that specific mapping.

No. But it sees my controller b/c I can set it as active. Here's a screen shot of what I'm working with.



On the top row (sorry, can't make it bigger for some reason), my control surface is set to UC33, then my ins and outs are set to Nio 2/4, and below track is set to on with all devices including some weird Microsoft synth thing. I disabled it and it still won't map it.

The controller responds when I move knobs and faders (like on the lcd panel on the actual device), and when I hit "select" under the "midi out" portion on the right hand side it sees the fader (which is the first I'm trying to map to), but the software just isn't recieving it. I think it might be AIDS.

Oh, and I've also tried a factory restore by pressing the +/- keys down on the controller. Not sure if it worked or not. My computer froze up when I tried to restart but is working fine now aside from not mapping my control surface.

I also reinstalled the drivers for the UC-33.

I'm really at a loss here. I'm sure it's just something dumb I'm overlooking.

you need to set up 2 different deals. set the Evo UC-33 all the way across on the top (LINE1)
and the Novation on the next line. (LINE2)

Oh, and I downloaded Enigma but decided using Ableton's autolearn function would be much easier. Then I decided that asking Dan's Music experts would be even easier than that.

Just cause you click the UC in the setting you still have to map each control. I use the UC33 and you just have to click and twist the whole setup~

Also turn "Remote" ON for the UC33

i wish i could help ......from what you have said it should be working .....this is why i bought an akai apc40 and a novation remote 37sl...automapping ftw

automapping is cool to a point... but if i want to assign a Freq knob on the Simpler to a certain knob on apc/whatever... it's good to be able to do that too.

i too got the apc40 and OMG i'm lovin' it.

The apc40 makes projects so easy to setup....now if i could find time to make music

Okay, two sets of querstions here. One, to Deff, so do I set it like this?

1. none, nio 2/4 (in), nio 2/4 (out)
2. uc33, nio 2/4 (in), nio 2/4 (out)

And Sean, how do I set remote to on? You mean in the pref's menu?

I think I'm missing something else here too. What exactly is the process for getting Live to autolearn shit? I press a key on my control surface that is on the top right that says "select" on the top and "midi out from usb" on the bottom (pointing to another button next to it as well). Then I move the fader and it responds on the lcd screen. But then nothing happens after I switch off midi map mode in Live. Do I need to like send the software a signal or something every time I do this? Sorry I'm super new to this and it's very confusing. I just wanna be the next House Rocka.
