Do you live in Texas and/or Dallas? If so... you need to be SEEN in the SCENE to get booked. If not... what do you have to offer that our local DJ's can't supply? What sets you apart from the rest? For example, we are bringing a DJ in from New York. Why? Because his demo BLEW us away... and his sound and track selection is fresh (people here could only ID 3 tracks on his demo that is 6 months old!)... and he has a weekly internet show. I also suggest that you FIND the promoters that post on this board... this can be done via the calendar. Promoters typically don't hunt down DJ's... unless it's a headliner of sorts. Take care and good luck!

To answer yor question I live in okc. I just moved here a few months ago. I started sinning 3 years ago While I lived in Ma. I can offer the sceane a different taste in track selection because Im from a different part of the country. No offence I understand what your saying about needing to be seen to be booked but the truth is that promoters can miss out on some really good talent that is right under their noses if they adopt that policy and im not just talking about me im talking about a few djs ive met that are extreamly talented but dont have the time to to go to alot of partys because of other responsibilitys. Im also a promoter and i always take care in my partys to find at least 2 djs that have not had a lot of exposer other wise its the same faces all the time and that gets old.... DJ Kinetic (D.C. i don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but if you don't have time to go out and see other people around here, then why should people make time for you. Promoters here won't mind missing talent if they can't put a face w/your demo, because if the promoter doesn't know you, what kind of a crowd do you think you will draw?? in this town if you have "other responsibilities" than promoting yourself, or getting known around here, than you should either prioritize, or stick to doing those things that take up your time. Im not trying to say that taking the time to promote yourself isnt important. Im only saying that their is a point where it becomes unproffesional. out of the 8-14 djs at the average party 1 or 2 unheard of djs isnt going to kill the party. Its good to see familer djs that i like but the sceane dosnt grow unless people experiment with different ways of doing things. The safest way isnt always the best way... |
