has anyone had any pblms on external hard drives/firewire port on a mac?
im thinking to save money get a smaller hd on the machine and just use
an external drive for 100 bucks. any glitches on em?

A) in my opinion get rid of your Mac, but that's my opinion

B) U shouldnt have a problem with external's and firewalls, just make sure that you config your firewall to let you use your USB.

buy only reliable brands. like seagate and IBM.

keep in mind that most external drives are just IDE drives slapped into a case with a USB2 or Firewire port on it. you will not achieve the higher bandwidth provided by the firewire or USB2 standards.

I use the glyph hard drive and have absolutely NO complaints. there are cheaper ones out there but do some shopping around.

Look for something with at least 7200 rpm and low seek times...

yeah the glyph drives are excellent... we use them at school...
