Xodiac is bootleg
power conversion

Okay, I recently aquired a really cool analog audio tape machine in an estate sale. I plan to run sounds through it to get add character and warmth to some of my digital synths, but its missing the power cord! I went to radio shack and tried to find a matching power cord, but nothing woud fit properly. So my question is, would anybody know how to possibly conver the power input to a modern standard or some other way to rig it to work, or do you know of someone who might know how? The input has two metal prongs about a half inch apart, and reads a. c. line.

Help would be much appreicated...

first of all, is it a european or american piece of equipment?

european plugs (which run off 220/240v ac) have the prongs spaced much farther apart than a standard american plug. some european pieces of gear actually contain internal circuitry to run off US voltage levels, and all you need is an adaptor. others require you to actually buy a conversion box (radio shack sells them).

if it's american, but you just can't find a cable that fits, try to find the specs for the unit (online or with any manuals you have have found). if the unit itself is taking regular AC (not DC converted by an external power supply) you can always just try to make your own cable. if it's DC you'll have to find a matching power supply and still potentially have to make your own adapter.

i hate proprietary electrical cables.. stupidest thing ever
