Red Bull Music Academy

What's up everybody:

I just want to remind you that the deadline to submit your application to the Red Bull Music Academy is drawing near. You definitely want to get yours in this week as the word is spreading and interest is building. Let's get someone from Texas out to South Africa this year. (You can't beat an all expense paid trip to South Africa for two weeks). all you would need to bring is your change of clothes and your records (yes, you would spin at one of South Africa's hottest clubs in the area!). This is definitely for "all" ( and I do mean all) DJs (all styles) and producers (all styles).

The following link goes more into detail regarding the Red Bull Music Academy. (www.redbullmusicacdemy.com <http://www.redbullmusicacdemy.com> ). You can download the application here. (http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/a..._form_2003.pdf) or (http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/application_form/).

CD-Roms explaining the whole concept of the academy are available at Illmatic and Tech Sun. If you would like a CD-Rom, hit me up, as I am nearly out. I want to give everyone a shoutout that has emailed me and told me they have sent their applications in already. Everyone, you still have time, but I would not wait until the last week. (hint...hint...)

The deadline is July 25. You would need to send in your completed application, a thirty minute mix or a few tracks/remixes you've produced, and a photo to the following address:

Red Bull Music Academy
Applications Cape Town 2003
Isartalstrasse 44
80469 Munich
Germany

Sending it global priority via the post office is only a couple of bucks...so make it happen! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. Please do not hesitate to pass this info on to any and all talented DJs and/or producers you know. The clock is ticking!

Take care.

Jay Winborn

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA WILL PLAY HOST TO THIS YEARS
“RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY”

Picture this: a room in Cape Town, South Africa with 30 DJs and/or producers from around the world. Each character from a different background: be it musical, social or political. In the centre, a couch, a sound-system and a voice. Red Bull Music Academy, it’s an experience they’re unlikely to forget.

For more than six years, the Academy has created a space where passion rules over profit, knowledge over kink, and competence over cash. Where music rules! Formed in Berlin 1998/99 the Academy has been hosted by an array of cities which include: Dublin 2000, New York/London 2001 and last year in Sao Paulo. Each a unique location with its own diverse blend of cultures and people.

The Mother City, Cape Town, South Africa is set to host the Red Bull Music Academy for 2003. Ten years after the fall of Apartheid, the country is now able to showcase its rich, diverse cultures to the world. Cape Town with its Afro-Euro influence has become a favourite with the international set frequenting the various beaches and soaking up the city’s nightlife. Kwaito, a downbeat fusion of pitched down New Jersey Deep House and local elements rules the airwaves. The world’s musical micro-genres blast out of scooters and passing cars. Projects such as B.O.P, Mandoza and the African Dope lads are all gaining international recognition. A musical revolution in the making.

So you want to be part of it? Here’s the procedure: All application packages sent to the Red Bull Music Academy between June 9th and July 25th, 2003 will be considered. The entries must consist of your music, be it a mix or a track, a completed questionnaire and current photos. All details can be found at www.redbullmusicacademy.com, amongst video streams and transcripts of past academies, a vibrant forum and extensive links to the musical sites of the world.

Sixty of the most promising applicants will be invited to the workshops in Cape Town. Flights and accommodation will be covered by the Red Bull Music Academy. All you have to do is make some time, either for Term I (November 2nd to 14th) or Term II (November 23rd to December 5th) and apply. If your musical ideas have not been rated by your surroundings as of yet – don’t worry. This selection is purely a meritocratic procedure. It’s totally about you. Your potential, your vision, your creativity. Your music.

By the first week of September, all applicants will be notified via email, no matter whether they were accepted or not. Judging from last years’ records, trying again for the next session will only increase your chances to get in. The only thing you have to do is download the application form from the website, fill it in, record some music, and…
See you at the Red Bull Music Academy Cape Town 2003?!
