| tenn dj/producer needing 2 talk 2 promoters
okay my name is joseph n., i am a progressive dj/producer. i am looking to just get in contact with some promoter. if you could pm me or leave a message on this thread i will get back to you a.s.a.p. thanks for all your help. okay when i say progressive they mean a range of sub genres from prog house, prog breaks, prog trance, tech house, deep house (if it fits just right), ambient, experimental, downtempo, nu skool breaks, electro, atmospheric house and so on. when i am talking about all those sub genres i am talking about different flavors, or levels of energy. something like, uplifting, deep, dark, techy, bouncy, happy, and so on. if you need any more info about what i play get with me. the best way to tell you what i sound like would be sasha, john digweed, chris fortier, jimmy van m, satoshi tomiie, junkie xl, sandra collins, meat katie, saeed and palash (dont know if i spelled the name right), momu, and a crap load more djs mixed all into one. i try my best at being super technical when it comes to programming, and mixing, but then again i am my hardest cridict. i might at times use 3 decks, i didn't say all the time, i said at times. well get back with me if you care to hear what i have to offer, or care just to talk. one luv, infected grooves usa, rep tn & tx joseph n. |

Ok... because you seem very persistent let me respond from a promoters point of view... You want to get booked and have a promoter bring you to Dallas. Now, ask yourself this... what do you have to offer that our locals, who people know... don't offer? So your good... well, our locals are too. Your from Tennesse... which it's somewhat of a selling point.... but not really. A promoter would need to be able to sell you to the public... and the promoter has to sell something that our locals don't offer... why will people pay to see you... when they can see Jay Winborn for free (at Seven on Fridays before 11:00)? Answer this... what makes your worth what it will cost to bring you? Cost break down: Air $300 est. Hotel $100 Food $50 Booking Fee $100? $200? $300? Let's be fair and say $200 TOTAL: $650. Now, a promoter could only charge $5 pp since you are not known and only from Tennesse (vs. overseas)... 130 would need to show up for the promoter to break even. Trust me... I am NOT trying to be rude... I just want to show you what goes through a promoters head when someone solicits to come to Dallas. Now, as a promoter, I have brought DJ's that no one has known... but I WANTED Dallas to HEAR and SEE those DJ's. As a promoter, I personally love the DJ's I have brought, so if moneywere going to be lost, I was OK with it... because I knew that the DJ's were going to push the scene even further. Good luck! And think about how to sell yourself... sell something that our locals can't offer.

karen i just wanted to say thank you for the reply. i wanted to let you know that i am not asking for much. when you are talking about booking fees, tranportation, hotels and food, i just laughted. i have a friend that lives in fort worth and i am going to be staying with him = money you dont have to spend on a hotel, i will be driving myself in a car that will only take about $40 in gas to get me there and back= money you dont have to spend for transportation, food i will get myself so that = money you dont have to spend on food expenses. the only thing i ask is that i receive $150 minimum for playing an hour 1/2. you asked what is a selling point for me? well honestly i cant really tell you. the tenn scene is really small and that is one reason i am trying to play out of state. back to the selling point though. i know you guys have great djs, and i am sure some are better then me, (not trying to sound like i am the shit either, so everyone dont get upset), but i can bring the a positive vibe, great music, flawless mixing, great progression in music, great energy for the crowed to feed off of, and basically just an overall great time. now i know other djs around there can do that, but dont you think that everyone gets sick and tired of hearing the same djs, with the same tracks, that are bought at the same record shop (forgot the name of the one there, o yea core)? taking in to consideration that some people buy online... dont you think that alot of the kids around there want something new every once in a while? i sure know that i do. i get sick of hearing the same dj at a club, with the same tracks being played over and over and over. now i am not sure how the dallas scene is right now, because i have not been in a long time, but i do know that i can bring a great time to the kids that deside to join the party for the night.... what do you think now? feedback is always welcome, seriously. p.s. good points made by the way. wink one luv, joseph n. Joseph... Ok, now that's better... right? Any promoter who just read what you wrote... knows NOW that they don't have to pay all that expense. But you never mentioned all that. Think of this too... you come on a message board where no one knows you... asking to be booked... AND then you state that you could send demos...etc. That should be standard practice and mentioned the first time you come on here. Remember... it's not always WHAT you know... but WHO you know. If people KNOW you, they are more likely to want to bring you. Right? One thing that I have learned over the years... is that artists are artists... and unfortunately, they don't always know how to sell themselves to get the gigs. That is why most artists need a promoter/booking agent working for them. That's why my guys and gal have me. Ok, hang around the boards... post some... and get the know the promoters who cater to your sound... get to know who is doing what... and then present yourself to that promoter. The promoter will be flattered that you know who they are and what they do... and you will make a solid contact in Dallas. FYI... EpiK-Entertainment is about pushing the trance scene in Dallas, so I am of no use to you. Good luck... and really THINK about how to SELL you.

good deal. i totally understand where you guys (promoters) are coming from. you are absolutely correct about artists not knowing how to sell themselves. around here there are not that many promoters for the style of music i play. it is hard to find a promoter that is out of state to help me out on a regular bases, if you know what i mean... it seems like right now i am having to do it all for myself and that does take alot of work. i do give you guys mad props for what you do. you are what makes the scene happen. i am glad you made some very valuable points. thank you for that. one luv, joseph n. |
