| DJ needles?
Okay, so I got my 1st table coming in the next day or 2 (the other one, I'm still shoppin' for)...and my mixer will be here tomorrow. Now onto: needles & headphones. Got any suggestions on where I can get some needles & what brand (for a beginner dj). Guess I'll be getting either Sony or Pioneer phones. Just thought I'd share my excitement with some of ya. |

If you are on a budget, I would get the sony headphones. But the pioneer's are badass. I would get Ortofon needles becuase they are a reasonalbe price, and they hold up real well.

Ask John, get the Technic headphones (DJ-1200's). The sound quality is very choice. and ortofon needles.

the technic phones are good, but it depends on what comfort level you want. i mean they have great padding, but they do not flex like the sony or pioneers do. the new pioneers have a larger cup for your ear then the older pioneer phones. the technic phones do have great sound i will say that, but i like them to flex better so i do not have to have them on my head all the time. i like the have my phones around my neck. the sony are great if you are on a budget like someone else had said. as for the needles it really depends on what you are going to be doing with them. if you are going to be scratching i might suggest a different set then if you are going to be just mixing straight out. overall the ortofon are the best in my book. honestly i dont have any, but i know they hold to the groove alot better, because they have the diamond tip instead of the spherical tips. plus they will not ware the vinyls grooves down like spherical tips will do after a while. basically if you want to keep your vinyls in good shape get ortofon. o yea if you have a scratch in a vinyl then the ortofon also, most of the time, keep the vinyl from skipping. good luck and congrad on getting your new toys, one luv, joseph n. |

i like my ortonfon dj carts, but i still contend that i got more brilliance from my old trackmasters. btw, you can get both ellipsoidal and spherical for ortofon dj carts. depends on what you're going to be doing with them. |

ortofon scratches (or "pinks") are great, i love mine. just don't get the all in one model, get the kind that you have to attach to a headshell. the all in one cart/needles setup can damage the contacts in your tonearm. congratulations on getting your tables... |

I think the general consensus with needles is Ortophone. We've had Concordes for almost two years now and they've been fine. I would suggest buying Pioneer headphones over the Sony for spinning. We have two pairs of Sonys (MDR-V600's for the studio machine and MDR-V700's for spinning) and one pair of Pioneer (HDJ-1000 for spinning as well). Sony makes a good headphone. The pair we use for studio purposes is great. The Sony pair we use for spinning is nice and punchy, but I think the Pioneer ones have a little higher quality of sound and definitely fit better and seem to be a lot more sturdier (as the MDR-V7's tend to fall apart after awhile). Just my 0.02. |
