Bad Boy Bill - Behind the decks reviewed by Xpander

America’s favourite DJ takes you Behind the decks Bad-Boy Style.. The latest outing from Bad-Boy Bill is 2 disk set containing a mix-cd and a DVD both in full surround sound... My demo version didn’t include the DVD, so you’ll have tot check that one yourself.
The audio cd is a 65 minute mix filled with US house, nifty scratch skills and acappellas. The mix starts of really well with some quality bangin’ house tunes. But when the mix evolves it becomes less bangin’ and more predictable and commercial, and this is a shame because it started that good. With predictable I mean tracks like “E-Samba” and “less talk, more action’ by Tim Deluxe.

I have to say although the mixes are smooth, the concept with enhanced DVD is really innovative and I like a few tracks, Behind The Decks definitely did not meet my expectations. All the extra features just mentioned are definitely nice, but when it comes to mix cd’s to me the (in this case poor) track list is definitely the most important thing on it. This is why I advice you to listen the complete cd before buying, and don’t be fooled by the first few tracks..

well, this coming from a bbb fan, i'm not sure that i like this cd as much as any of the prior ones. don't get me wrong, i like it and i love the track selection (as usual) on this cd. the thing that turns me off about this cd is that it seems that it is ENTIRELY done on pro-tools and the tracks are pretty much rammed back to back, the longest being just over 2 minuites (and that's because he had to ride it out because of the vocal layed over it). i know he's used pro-tools on his past efforts, but i don't really feel that it was to the extent as he did on this outing! you can do some cool shit to mixes with pro-tools, and what he does is definitely creative, however it's just not my fovorite work by bill. however, i consider myself a "True fan" and went out to buy it and show support. i like the unreleased material on there, especially "freq'd" by bill himself and can't wait for that stuff to come out.

see you all out at the lounge on 11/15!

I though it was a great mix. I agree that the placement of the records needed a bit of touching up, but this is one damn fine house CD. The highlights are most certainly the forthcoming IHR/Motus/Moody releases.

Bad Boy William did a great job! I can't wait untill November.

Cheers,

Johnny F

p.s. The DVD footage is the funniest thing I've ever seen!!!

BTD is da shiz!

what??? BTD is my favorite he's done so far.

The INTRO does it for me. HOLY CRAP!!!! Damn, STEVE SMOOTH is a bad ass producer! mmm....

Maybe a couple mixes were a lil shabby, but there are 35 records on the CD!

Yeah, he used Pro Tools, but who cares, the CD rockz!

Everytime BBB comes out with a new CD, I fall in-love with house again.

Overall grade: GODDAMN A+!!!

where is Josh "the Funky One" at?

I concur. I went out and bought it the day it was released to show love, and BBB never disappoints. Personal favorite part has to be from Clubganger to the finish. Damn thing hasn't left my player since I bought it.

i think triple B has set a new goal for future mix cds. with the whole dvd thing i would like to see this from other djs as well.
b is always evolving - his cd's never sound the same. thats why his old stuff really never gets old.
i like BTD - great mix all around - the vocals keep you singing along through the whole mix. XPANDER needed the real copy not the demo.

hmm...i thought i seen a PVD cd a while back with a dvd that had the music from the cd going with some nice footage of where he played on his tour. i forgot what is was called....had something with global, and no it was not global underground. the new dj dan cd has some dvd footage also. you will probably see this from bigger djs cause technology rocks.
