| Josh Wink - 20 to 20
Josh Wink is back with a new album. After his Profound Sounds parts 1 and 2 the man from New York releases his 20 tot 20 album. When Profound Sounds were Dj mix albums, 20 to 20 is an album with only productions of Josh Wink.
Josh Wink always was into acid house. We all remember singles like “Higher State of Consciousness (Tweeking Acid Funk)” “Evil Acid” and remixes like “Dave Clarke - The Compass (Wink South Philly Acid Pass)”. The man remixed a huge amount of songs for the likes of Depeche Mode, Masters At Work, Moby, Steve Bug, Slam, FC Kahuna and many many more. Right now Wink releases 7 tracks which are a homage to the original Acid. The “20 to 20 EP” is for those DJ’s who play on cd and for all Josh Wink and Acid house lovers. Acieeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
After the intro 20 to 20 starts with beats that could have been made by DJ Pierre and the boys from Future, but are sounding fresh and they don’t sound outdated in any way. In “Late Night Acid” Josh Wink releases his TB-303 analogue bass synthesizer like a wolf that has been trapped for a week and who is hungry like hell. Haunting acid sounds in courtesy of the TB-303. Second Track (track 3) is called “Sprung Minimism”. This starts with a beat and a high annoying high ping sound. Later the sounds evolves to a test tone. Just close your eyes and remember the warehouse parties in old dirty places. Massive acid. Track 4 is called “Fill me with acid” and is filled with the TB-303 sounds again. Not as haunting this time but still with the other explosive sounds it is acid galore. Track 5 is called 516 Acid. This is the first track with a dark voice that says “acid house”. Again the Roland bass synth is all over. Track 6 is more a techno track than it is acid. It has standard techno beats and is not acid-ish like the tracks before on this cd. Track 7 is again more techno but has a bit more acid influences than track six. Last track on the cd is called “Ape tit”. This has beats and the influences on the sounds that make me think of old Dave Clarke tracks. Again more techno than acid in My opinion.
All tracks are on the cd are mixed into each other so when you listen to it, it sounds more like a mix than a studio album.
