About a month back I got a starter pack from 123dj.com, and for the most part it's serving it's purpose. I'll be happy with it until I get my Techs. Here's a link for the package I have: http://www.123dj.com/packages/turntable/megamix.html Hope I helped. M |

| WAX and Carts
Illematic Records Bills Records and Tapes Core Records Turbulent Records Tech*Sun Records ^They all sell the best vinyl^ (all in Dallas area) And a catridge is the casing for the needle. Actually, the term cartridge is interchangeable with needle. They are the same thing. Just make sure that your needle or cart. can handle the type of mixing you do. I.E: you can't have a mxing needle and scratch with it... you will fuck up the needle and the record. On the other hand, if you just mix, no need for an expensive scratching needle. However, the best needle for all applications is the oraphone (sp.) They are 150 bux a piece though... quality costs money bro. GOOD LUCK! |

Hmmmm.... Check this site out. www.groovetech.com Everything is organized by genre and sub-genre. They have real clips of EVERYTHING that you can listen to. Dig around and try to familiarize yourself with all of the genres so you can find exactly what you like. Where you go from there is completely up to you. ![]() Hope I helped. M |

I like hard trance....like Jimbo from the Tunnel... but I also like Kid Icarus and Dj Irene.... I dont really know the difference between the different styles.... I know you got Progressive House, Hard House, Hard Trance, Progressive Trance, goa trance, jungle, garage.... and to tell you the truth, I really dont know what the difference is.... I mean, what makes something 'prgressive' or 'hard' or whatever.... I guess that would help.... ya know |

when you get your decks.....make sure they are direct drive....belt driven ones don't hold their pitch...its kind of hard to match a beat when your tables won't hold their pitch also go to this site http://www.amtrakdjs.org - check out the frequently asked questions about beatmatching drills, phrasing, etc... also read some of the "essays" on music selection and equipment, etc... ryan Last edited by Waxcid_Trip; 01-14-02 at 04:07 PM. |

| like anything else these days...
...the internet is going to be your best resource for all of your questions. There are many online record shops that let you listen to records before you buy them. www.groovetech.com www.satelitterecords.com www.globalbeats.com.........etc. Listen to records, buy the ones you like. Read about what artists are doing these days. Familiarize yourself with the different record labels and which ones you like. Go to local record stores and ask about the music that you like. You will find that most people that work in record stores are DJ's themselves and don't mind sharing the knowledge that they have aquired. Send me a PM if you have more questions or would like a hand getting everything setup once you get your equipment. Definitely make sure you get direct drive turntables. I haven't played on them myself, but from what I hear, the Numark Phat Pack is a good starter kit that won't cost you too much and it has more than everything that you need to get started. SFH |

Well....if you don't know the difference between what makes a track "hard" or "progressive" you might want to learn a little more about track structures and the difference in musical formats and genres before you spit out the money for tables. In response to Goof....actually stylus and needle are interchangeable, rather than the cartridge and the needle.

Quick and easy lesson in styles, screw. Take a trip to www.Satelliterecords.com. Take some time to peruse the different styles (in your case, the Trance and Hard House seems to be what you are interested in). Listen to the track samples to see if that's what you are looking for. Find your groove, then find your records...at Tech*Sun Records, conveniently located off of 360 and Lamar! Visit www.techsun.net for details! (Hey Matt/Wes, any discount for advertising?) Jesster |
