| What? You Just Travel Around and Play Records?
this is for all the djs and producers out there. Do you think it is still possible for djs to still make it without producing first or at all? I know back in the late/early 90's It was more of a feasible idea. But what about now? djs like Heather and Farina have been doing it for nearly a decade and are just now starting to put out tracks. I know some of you may respond with something like "yeah, but everyone is a dj now, so things have changed" but things are changing again. With the electronic music scene seemingly going back to its pure form and hipsters pawning their turntables and records, the market isn't as saturated. also, do you think there is a certain bias against those who choose to dj and have no desire to produce? discuss |

![]() You might be able to make it by with Just DJing, but you'll need big exposure and you'll need to know TONS of people. The easiest way is too producer, now.

people can still make it as djs but to achieve real recognition today on a national, local or global level producing, remixing, commercial cd making is essential and the next logical step for the next generation of djs theres a difference between a old timers like farnia, frankie knuckles, Vicous Vic, Joey Beltram and those guys who can stand on name recognition alone and those djs trying to work there way up & build a name for themselves the scene is no longer new - so more must be done now when you say "make it" what do you mean? make it as a hobby or make it as a career |

Personally, I think producing should be the next logical step. But i know there are djs out there who have no desire to produce and have the potential and talent to make it.

Producing will get your more national/international exposure if you're tracks are being released on substantial labels. A Dj that doesn’t produce can get a following in their home town but producing can help you expand your market. Producing will also increase your clout witch can only help your career but its not required to become successful. Knowing the right people is the best thing to expand your career from my experience.

for as much as I luv house music everytime I sit down at the computer to work on a track I always end up making a downtempo tune I need a program thats good for remixing and for striping bass lines and stuff out of old 70s funk songs ...........any suggestions For me, I'm reaching a point that what I'm looking for seems harder to find sometimes and/or always coming out by the same producer .....so I know what it is I want, so I might as well make it
