FAQ: My gear is broke. What do I do?

I'm working on other, more in depth, FAQ's to put up here, but have been ridiculously busy. This one's a bit easier.

I see quite a few people with broken gear...tables out of joint, staticy mixers, rusted tone arms (*see note below), etc...and they never know who to turn to. So, here's you chance to post your suggestions for who does good work on gear. I'll start the ball rolling with the one I think most everybody has used...Jay Anderson with Revolution. Every time there's been a thread posted about busted gear, his name pops up. Check him out at:

Ok, so who do you use? Cause I know I've seen other names thrown up in the past.

*Oh, and the note about rusted tone arms...be nice to your repair tech and DO NOT lick the connection between the cartridge & the tone arm. Sometimes the connectors can get gummed up & need cleaning, so use an approved, quick dry, contact cleaner or at the least some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. Water (saliva) + electricity + time = bad things for metal & electrical parts.

use denatured alcohol.
(not rubbing alcohol)

I know they are 2 different products, but what makes denatured better to use on your gear than common rubbing alcohol?

denatured is filtered better. rubbing alcohol still can leave a residue.

Does anyone know where I can get a Tascam cdrw700 fixed?

(takes long time to read cd's if at all, buffer makes jumping noise, door acts funny sometimes etc.)

But sometimes it'll just work perfectly without the problems listed above, wtf

Still does its duty, it burns, reads, erases, and refreshes cd's. Just want to know how I can fix the glitches.

Thanks

I have a pair of DB - OPERA Lyric 415 Active Bi-Amping speakers that need to be looked at. I think there is a bad connection in one of the amps that causes some horrific eardrum piercing static that always seems to kick in during an ambient break in the music.

Oh and by the way, I bought them in Germany so they are 210 volts (I have convertors).

Any idea where I can go to get em fixed?

Audio Electronics

You can try http://www.audioelectronics.com/ for your Tascam gear. I have used them in the past - a little on the slow and expensive side though, but good work.

I haven't taken any turn tables to them.

And are you guys talking about Jay Anderson that used to throw parties up near Denton at that old air field?
